Dell Inspiron 9200 will not boot. All lights come on (power, HD, numlock, scroll lock, capslock) for just a few seconds and then laptop does powers down. Replaced screen. Reseated memory and HD - no visual problems. Laptop does not boot. No HD activity when attempting power on.

The screen is brand new, replaced it for a customer before testing to see if the laptop would even power up - silly me.

The laptop has no battery. The AC adapter is being used to power up the unit, but there is nothing on the screen at all when power is applied to the system.

I also felt that this is a motherboard problem, thanks for your confirmation diagnosis.

Could the screen's connections be causing the laptop's failure to boot? Say if the connections weren't seated well. Can a screen issue prevent the laptop from booting up?

Could the a screen issue be causing the laptop's failure to POST? Say, if the screen's connections were not seated perfectly. Would a screen connection issue prevent the laptop from POSTing?

Could be one of a few things. Do you see anything on the screen at all before it powers down? Are you running on battery power while doing this or the AC adapter? I have seen problems with the battery cause this. Try taking the battery out and booting that way. If nothing is showing up on the screen and it just powers up and off on AC power this would appear to be a motherboard problem. Please let me know the answers to the above and I can help further. Thanks and good luck.

If you could, warranty replace. Otherwise your probably best off getting a new laptop as out of warranty mobo's from dell can be pricey.

Sounds like a motherboard failure to me. Remove all MEMORY, Battery, Drives, Wireless card am modem, see if you get memory beep codes. If you do, add 1 memory module, see if you can get the system to POST, If no go, try other RAM, If system posts, add items till you ID failed item. If no POST< replace motherboard ($150 to $200 on Ebay for that model usually

Testimonial: "I have tried what you have suggested. No POST. Thank you for pricing information. However, the customer has already paid 150 for the screen :("

My eee intel will turn on but the screen is black and the power lights will come on to when you turn it off it flashes white and thats it!Can someone help me please,

It'd be a good idea to check if the laptop is actually booting up or not getting anywhere at all. You can check this two ways, fairly accurately.

First of all, the best way to check is to plug your laptop into another external monitor, you should be able to do this with the VGA connector on the left side of your laptop. You can do this with any monitor that's used with a PC. See if the monitor turns on when the laptop starts.

If you don't have an external monitor to try, the numlock, caps lock and scroll lock keys on your keyboard should show that they're active by the LED that shows they're on or not. Turn it on and let it boot up (give it a few seconds or minutes to be sure), then press numlock or caps lock or scroll lock and see if the LEDs for those keys turn on or not.

If the external monitor works, or the LEDs are functioning as normal, it's likely that the monitor has a loose connection inside or that the monitor is entirely broken. Since the monitor is flashing white when you turn the laptop off, it would sound to me that the inbuilt monitor is connected but not working.

If the external monitor doesn't work, and the LEDs for capslock etc don't respond, then it's likely that something else is wrong with the laptop entirely.

It will be helpful to know what happens to narrow down additional help.

Capslock10 times blink with both indiator num/scroll lock are off

It certainly does indicate motherboard issue, sub out the ram memory one at a time and test, if no change! the laptop needs to be checked out for motherboard problems.

My inspiron 1525 won't boot, the scroll light and caps lock blink

Remove 1 stick of ram and turn on, if no! take out the second one and put back the first, and power on, if okay you know the 1 stick is bad. Remove main battery and power on, "long shot" if no change chances are it is a motherboard issue.

Dell Inspiron 5160 wont turn on

I would suggest that first try running the psa test on ur system which could b done by press and hold FN key and power button together and leave it as soon as u see anything on the screen or any led in case u get any error code or beep sounds then it has to do with hardware and u ned to contact dell in case ur system is still under warranty.which lights do u see come up when u press the power button.I guess u r talking abt the led's for capslock , numlock and scroll lock.try reseating the memory module from the system and try running ur system on one memory chips and vise-versa because it seems that may b the prob is with the memory sticks.
in case u want manual for removing the memory sticks try using support.dell.com and u would get the manuals from there.

'why the ligth for the uppercase letter function flashing for 9 times and the dell d600 don t start

Hi,
basically the problem that you are having is a no P.O.S.T (power on self test ) issue or to make it clear the computer is having some problems turning on. Now, how is the capslock light related to the problem? For dell portables it uses Numlock, capslock and scroll lock key as diagnostic indicators as well. based on your discription, the off-flashing-off combination means that there is something wrong with the main board on your computer. and the badnews is the part costs a lot. you'd probably end up paying $400.00 for the parts and repair.

Hope this helps.

thanks.
