Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset Headset Logo
Posted on Oct 08, 2009

My girlfriend has a Logitech ClearChat Style headset. I recently gave her a Dell E6500 with onboard IDT High Def. Drivers and Windows Vista Business 64. The microphone rarely works (or properly discovered) and when it does it's choppy. It almost ALWAYS fails when Skype is loaded after it's been working fine using Steam voice and Vent. It works fine on her old XP-based 32-bit system. I've tried updated audio device drivers from the Dell website (9/29/2008 release), unplugging/replugging. Restarting the computer with the device plugged in (and unplugged another time). I can get it to work occasionally, but having to go into Crossloop every time I want to voice chat with her is getting redonkulous. Any help here would be phenomical (yes... that's a made up word).

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. I'm using the Logitech ClearChat Style headset. I can get this device to play sounds but I cannot get it to actually use the microphone.

[PARTIALY SOLVED] Re: Logitech USB headset won't work in ubuntu 10.10... help? Ok. Here is what I did.

Open a terminal and type 'alsamixer' (without the quotes). Than press 'F6'. It will open a small windows. Go with the cursors to your headset and 'ENTER'. Now you can use the cursor 'up' to get the volume up and the headset working. When you also want the mic go up, than first cursor 'right' and than 'up'. 'esc' is getting you out of here and saves this for this session.

Hope I helped someone with this icon_biggrin.gif

ClearChat Pro USB headset asks for driver upon install

  1. (Vista) Confirm your system restore point first. It needs to be prior to what you're going to attempt here. If it has a recent restore point, great, but if not, make a system restore before you do this, in case it doesn't work.
  2. In the Control Panel, click System, Advanced System Settings, click System Protection, and click System Restore.
  3. (Optional) Try updating your usb drivers before trying the final step, reinstalling the Vista Service Pack 2.
  4. Here's how to verify if your USB (drivers) in the Device Manager are up to date.
  5. Open the Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
  6. Open the Universal Serial Bus controllers (usually at the bottom of the device list).
  7. Right-click, on your first USB, Updating Driver Software. It will look for the update or let you know (which may take a bit of time) that it is up to date already. Repeat this process on all the USB devices.
  8. If that doesn't work, try this: plug in your headset, and keep it plugged into the usb.
  9. In your Windows Updates, re-install the Service Pack 2. After Vista reboots your computer and finishes the install, unplug your headset from the USB and then replug it in. What you are likely to see is a Windows message indicating that it sees the software and is installing it (minus the windows pop-up message of "where's the driver disc for it?").
  10. Now the trick is to get the headset to play the microphone through the speakers appropriately!
