I am trying to insert an ethernet NCI card into back of Sx270. How do you remove casing at rear? There is a green switch that releases the hard disc but no screws to remove back plate.

The LED code you described indicates a memory failure. Remove and re-install all of your memory. If this does not fix the issue, remove all memory and insert one stick at a time until the unit turns on. Replace faulty memory.

I would take it to Best Buy, and ask a computer tech there. They're usually knowlegable and more than happy to let you know how, what special tools you might need, etc. Wish I'd opened one so I could tell you, but there's sometimes tricky things the engineers do to make it hard for most people to figure out. They can hide screws under labels, metal or plastic plates, under rubber cushions, you name it. Maybe someone on this site has done it before, but I don't think so, because I've seen others with the same problem.

On the back of the system case are an green knobb, puch it downwards and the HDD lid on the right side pops open.
Push it upwards and the left side panel opens up.

Remove the two screws on the right side of the camera (right as camera is facing away from you.)

Remove the screw from the top right side of the camera.

Remove two screws from left side of camera.

Remove the screw from the top left side of the camera.

Remove the screw that is just to the right of the viewfinder.

Pop up the flash.

Lift the top section of the casing off, with the following in mind... There are two spots where the casing interlocks: 1. Rear to the right of the viewfinder -- press in on that area to release it from the lower casing. 2. Front directly under the ME in MEGAPIXEL; press in on that as well.

Remove screw from rear side of tripod mount. (leave the front one)

CAREFULLY remove the screw from the viewfinder adjustment. The adjustment is very delicate and has two tiny plastic tabs that will shear off quite easily -- trust me because I broke mine. If you break yours, be sure to adjust it to the most convenient position (i.e. not macro) before reassembling.

REMOVE THE FLASH CARD!

At thie point, no screws impede the removal of the rear case. The flash card ejector switch, however, is a minor obstacle. It seems best to have it slid all the way to the left as you work the rear cover off (from right to left worked for me.)

Now follow the green ribbon cable from the Cancel/OK/4way switch up to the right of the zoom. Just to the right of the zoom, under that cable, is a screw hole that is more than likely EMPTY. It's not supposed to be. Find the tiny screw that goes in that hole. Either get rid of it, (not vital, IMHO) or if you want to put it back...

To replace the screw:

Remove the two screws holding the top LCD and power switch on.

Lift the rear of that assembly up to disengage its connector, and slide it back. Two LEDs protrude down from the front of it into the front casing, so be careful not to bend them.

Underneath is the socket for the ribbon for the OK/Cancel/4way. Slide it out. Now you have access to the screw hole.

Replace the screw.

Re-insert the ribbon. Make sure it is in all the way and straight.

Tile the top control board back into place, pressing it down into its socket.

At this point I inserted a battery and tested to make sure the rear and top controls still functioned. You may want to play it safe and not do this while all of the guts are exposed, but the risk is probably minimal. Do it at your own risk though.

Replace the two screws for the top control assembly.

Temporarily press the flash down and make sure the white switch at its rear is in the right place and won't get smashed when you reassemble!

Seat the compactflash ejector slide switch onto the bottom of the camera, making sure its points left, and that its two adjacent tabs straddle the metal tab on the CF slot. It's easiest to reassemble when it is slid left, so slide it there.

Replace the rear cover, tilting it on from left to right.

Insert a CF card and make sure the release switch works.

Make sure the hinge pin for the CF cover hasn't slid out, and that the cover snaps into place.

Replace its 2 long silver screws on right side of the rear cover.

Replace two shorter silver screws on left side of the rear cover.


Replace the longer silver tripod mount screw.

VERY CAREFULLY insert the viewfinder adjustment into the viewfinder, making sure its delicate tabs are in the slots of the viewfinder.
Reinstall the long black screw that holds it in place.
(If you break this, make sure to adjust the viewfinder to an optimal (infinity?) position before replacing the back cover.)

Replace the top cover while holding the flash release switch back.
Note the two points from earlier that snap together.

Test the flash release.

Replace the two screws on either side of the top cover and the one in the rear. These are all the same size.

1. Slide the release button (1), and remove the back cover
(2).
2. Remove the battery (3), and insert the SIM card (4).
3. Insert the battery (5), and replace the back cover (6).

you must open the top cover by relase the green lach in the back off computere to rhigt side
and phuse the cover out from the front side.
on your bord you have jumpper near the chipset take him out power on after off back the jummper home and try.
more option .take out the green plastik with in the left corner you can see the coin battry remove wait 1 min and insert back. go to f2 bios mode and change the time zone

OK.. to the back left of your lid, under the top casing, by the hinge.. you have a hook metal bar that activate the lid switch.. hard to describe, but I'll do my best.. use left hand lift up on down on lid.. use right hand, reach under lid and find metal hook.. ok.. push up on lid and right hand push back on metal hook slightly(not to much).. now try closing lid and see if you heard clicking noises.. also, in the future try not to let the lid drop down, that will bend the hook.. hope you got it.. good luck...mike

Lay the unit DVDRoM face down, and then slide the green 'thingy' (technical jargon) on the back of the unit in the only direction that it will go (should be a diagram on the case itself, to show how...) and at the same time slide the upper casing forward. I have one of these suckers, and it ain't as easy as it could be, but it will move!

If the laptop posts

(power on self test) and you see stuff on the screen, no matter how short , do the following: (this checks for a software problem)

• when booting up press F8 and when you get to the menu, boot up into safe mode,
• then restore the pc back to a date before you had the problem,
• and/or remove any program you installed prior to you having the problem, if that don't work
• Try a bootable anti virus disc use it to check for any viruses , if not try a recovery disc, or operating system disc ,
• both disc's will try to access the hard drive.
• if they do not work, (nothing has changed) nothing comes on the screen.

laptop does not post: (then it is a hardware problem)

• it may be that the screen has a problem and needs specialist's attention (cannot be done via text) but try the following first.
• check battery is seated correctly and that the power pack is functioning,
• if the battery has gone flat and the power pack is not working ,the laptop will not start.
• Remove any hardware you may have installed prior to you having the problem.
• remove the screw(s) holding the cover plate on the back of the laptop where the ram lives remove the memory sticks,
• clean the gold edges both sides, with rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser, and re-insert them, (not an ink eraser as it will do damage)
• swap them around if you have more than one, try one at a time.
• if you only have one, borrow one from a friend or try the ram in your friends laptop ,if that's possible,
• or take the ram to your local pc shop and ask them to check it for you (they may do that for you)
• if you can establish that the ram and power pack is ok,
• and anti virus and recovery /system disc's do not work,
• it may be that the motherboard has failed or as mentioned earlier the screen has failed
• but in the case of the screen failing you should be able to hear noises from the hard drive when booting up.
• Generally a dead hard drive would not stop the laptop from posting.
