JennAir 30"elec.slider downdraft unit/ blower location issue.

I``m an appl.installer & I`ve never had this issue & jennais`s tech.support can`t help & adv.tech.@jennair only talks w/app.repair svs.tech`s. In replacing an Amana downdraft unit that had the vent sys.built around it,attempting to retro-fit the jennairs blower set up has left me needing to have the blower motor & 6' intake on the blower housing to be on opposite sides on the blowers 5' exhaust to floor vent.It can be done, housing bolt pattern wise, housing is the same both sides & wil accept changing however the fans paddles appears to not move the air correctly in the opp.side.It only has a slight downdraft pull. Does the motors polarity need reversed & if so how is that achieved ?

SOURCE: downdraft

I would double check that the installer used the correct vent hood outside. The correct one has a spring that keeps the outdoor flap closed when not in use. Cleaning the outdoor flap area may also help it seal a little better. Even if the right hood was installed, you might check to see there is a spring present (or signs that there was one.

I have never had air blow out the downdraft, but I do feel cold travel to the fan unit which makes the floor cold in front of the range.

SOURCE: Used Jennair

the most a used appliance wil bring , if very clean and in good condition is usually half of the value of the cost of a new one.    I hope this helps you to decide.

Can I remove the downdraft equipment under my jennair electric cooktop and still use my cooktop?

It is possible to remove the downdraft equipment from underneath your JennAir electric cooktop and still use the cooktop, but it depends on how the downdraft equipment is attached to the cooktop and whether there are any other issues that may arise from removing it.
Before attempting to remove the downdraft equipment, you should consult the user manual or contact JennAir customer service to ensure that it is safe to do so and to obtain any specific instructions for your particular model.
Some potential issues to consider when removing the downdraft equipment include:
  1. Airflow: The downdraft equipment is designed to help draw smoke, steam, and odors down and out of the kitchen. Without it, you may experience reduced airflow and ventilation, which could result in lingering odors or smoke.
  2. Heat distribution: The downdraft equipment may also help distribute heat evenly across the cooktop surface. Without it, you may experience hot spots or uneven cooking.
  3. Stability: The downdraft equipment may provide additional support or stability to the cooktop. If it is removed, the cooktop may become less stable or secure.
If you decide to proceed with removing the downdraft equipment, it's important to follow all instructions carefully and to take appropriate safety precautions. You should also be prepared to address any issues that may arise as a result of the removal, such as by using an alternative ventilation system or adjusting your cooking techniques to compensate for any changes in heat distribution.
If you're unsure about whether or how to remove the downdraft equipment from your JennAir electric cooktop, it's best to consult with a professional technician or contact JennAir customer service for guidance.

Install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

Hi schmidt_rich,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You took over as owner builder when your builder "took the $ and ran". You are installing kitchen cabs now and discovered the PVC vent pipe (which goes into the foundation and out the side of the house) is in the wrong place for the location of the downdraft unit and integral blower. The vent is actually under the electrical connection panel. You were told initially( 2 yrs ago when you bought the downdraft cook'n'vent) there could be no bends in the exhaust fan route or it would change the effectiveness. Does anyone know if it is ok to put a bend in the connection to the vent? Or do you need to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I can syphathise. I have had to deal with this same problem. I have found that one ell will not degrade the effectiveness enough to notice. If you need more then you may need to adjust cabinets.

JENNAIR DOWNDRAFT COOKTOP

bibman: Sounds like the control switch or possible loose wiring. Take the element out and test the slots for voltage. You should get 220 Volts when on high.

DMA Jennair The fan motor is bad and needs to be replaced.

I suggest a new cooktop as THIS IS THE WORST DESIGNED COOKTOP I HAVE EVER USED. Not enough power, very hard to clean,

Installation of new electric cooktop

If you're talking about a downdraft style cooktop, you will just need to measure the discharge vent diameter and shape and match that up. Not all are the same shape but most are 6" diameter
