No Windows Sounds or windows sound functions but All media players work

I have lost my Windows Sounds no startup, no program sounds, no game sounds, etc. Control Panel shows sound card but cannot get any sounds to preview. Yet Media Player works, as does Winamp, and many other sound based devices. I have no sound from Internet sites. Creative tests work and all sound OK but no sound in Windows

Windows media player throws error when I play any audio

As you may have already notice, there isn't a problem with your driver.
However to gain a better understand the problem you rule out a couple of things. However, if the this problem is only present in windows media player. Then you should try another play i.e. VLC media player.

1. Go to you device manager and make sure the device is working properly. If not try uninstalling the device, restarted the computer letting windows discover the device again.

2. Next go to windows media player file (press "alt" key to get toolbar in newer version. Select options -> devices select your speaker -> properties and be sure that your audio device is available and selected.

3. Finally if all these options has failed, please use an alternative media like the one mention above (VLC media player).

I hope this have been a great help in your troubles. Please provide feedback on the solution.

Hi i have a western digital home edition 2 tb hard drive that now when i play an avi movie file i get sound and no picture or picture and no sound also these files play fine on windows media player so now...

> these files play fine on Windows Media Player

Then, continue to use Windows Media Player.

Or, tell us what alternative program that you use that gives "sound-and-no-picture" or "picture-and-no-sound".
What version of that program?
Windows XP? Vista? 7?
Any more "possibly-relevant" details ?

I've got crative inspire t7900 not workin

You can hear music and sound when you test your audio and also the Windows startup and shutdown even sounds. But you can't hear any music when you play it in Windows Media Player or the videos on youtube because Windows Media Player needs some codecs installed and you don't have those installed.

You can download and install this Media Player codec pack from Microsoft.

Hope that helps,
Regards,

- When I try to play music on Windows Media Player, a message comes up saying ''Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound...

It sounds like your sound card is disabled. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > click on Sound, video and game controllers.. Look to see if your sound card shows up. If it's there, double click on it to see if it says it's working properly or disabled.

If it says it's okay, you may want to uninstall it, and reinstall it. Go to your PC mfg website and look for an updated driver.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a prob

If this is the promblem with any music player in your computer than their is no sound driver installed or some sound files are missing to check if the sound driver is installed you can open the control panel---->sounds and check if the driver is installed if it is not you must install it using the motherboard CD that came along with your Pc

Sound device problem

if you go to the start menu and right click my computer on the list at the bottom it says properties click thAt a window will open called system properties on the tab titled hardware at the top click that a window for the hardware will open and you are looking for device manager in the device manager you can update and mess with whatever you have installed on your computer. now look for sound video and game controllers on the left is a plus arrow click the + symbol and it will expand your devices look for anything titled with the words (audio driver) this should give you make and model information of your sound card and drivers from here you can use windows (by double clicking your selection) to troubleshoot and update that driver or what i would reccomend is write that information down and then google search the description for your sound card and driver i think a generic driver is called legacy audio driver or something like that. anyways hope this fix ya

Sound

Since your sound is obviously working, the problem is with your sound schemes in Windows. Click on Control Panel and go to Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the "Sounds" tab and at the bottom, you can change the default sound(s) you want to play for each Windows function. Scroll down to "Windows Logon" and click "Browse" to choose the sound you want to play at startup.

Problem solved :) Remember to rate
