Purchased an external hard drive for backup (Western Digital 1TB). When I turn on the computer (home built) it tries to boot off of the external hard drive instead of drive c: and stops bootup. I then have to unplug it, boot up and then plug it in. I have been told that this can be fixed by changing bios settings but don't see anything in the mother board manual that changes the usb settings. I don't have any experience with changing bios settings so don't know how to get started. Mother board is MSI KT6V MS-7021 (v1.X) ATX. Help! thanks
When you first turn your computer on, during the first few seconds the screen should give you information about what is happening, AND it should tell you to press the delete key in order to get to the bios settings. Do that (press the key several times to make sure you get there). Once you get to the bios settings find the ones that control the boot disc (usually you will see 1st boot and 2nd boot, and each will allow several possibilities, including floppy boot, if you have one, as well as cd or dvd boot, etc.) Make sure your hard disk is selected as your first boot choice, then save the selection and reboot.
I think this will work for you.
