It says exceeded usable memory and shuts down and wont come back on

I had this problem. I tried turning it on then plugging it in to the computer. Shut down. I then just left it a while and plugged it in without turning it on first. I showed the "USB Connected" screen on the Pearl. I was able to open computer and the driver. Make sure just to delete one or two AUDIO files. You can then go in and sync it or w/e you do with your audio media library.

I haven't seen the exceeded usable memory message on mine, but I am familiar with Pearls not coming back on.

First, perform a reset buy removing the battery for at least 10s. Sometimes mine just shows the plain pearl logo (not the moving one) and then shuts off. Removing the battery for a while and then putting it back in always fixes it so that it shows the plain pearl logo for few seconds then displays the animated logo and starts normally.

If this fix doesn't work for you, then the firmware inside the Pearl is most likely corrupted, and can be easily fixed by running this software from the RCA website and following these steps:

1. start the program,
2. remove the battery from the TH1102 & wait at least 10 secs,
3. hold the play button while plugging into usb,
4. release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
5. click the start button to replace the firmware.

I found an unmarked square hole on one end of the mp3 next to the sliding on and off switch. I inserted a tiny flat screwdriver into the hoe and made contact with the reset button. I then turned on the mp3 with the menu/ off and on button and it started working again. I then connected it to my PC with USB cord and deleted two files. Now the mp3 is fixed. PS I almost gave up on it until I saw that unmarked square hole.

That above solution from Paul Sager does not address the memory problem. If the th1702 is put in the usb port of the computer, you can open it up as a file by clicking/double clicking on the PEARL drive shown in My Computer. You can than open any of the files that has a music file in it, and move them off the PEARL drive, and onto a chosen file on your computer. This should take care of the memory problem. There is one more thing I would like to mention. It looks to me as if RCA dedicates portions of memory for different file sections. For instance, I will get informed that I have run out of memory when I try to record another FM song, yet have plenty of memory to do a voice recording, so you might try to ,ake sure you remove the music from a specific file section.
