This is normal, when you go from HDMI to DVI, the sound does not get transmitted. You need a separate cable to go from audio output on the computer to Audio input to the TV. There are speaker (headphone on laptop) jack to RCA audio cables, you could also go with digital audio or even optical out if your computer and TV both have the input and outputs.

I hooked up my laptop C300 to my tv. I get picture but, no sound. Do I need a sound card? If so, which one?

It all depends on how you connected to the TV. There are 3 common ways, using HDMI, DVI or a VGA cable. Of the 3, only HDMI transmits sound from the computer to the TV. If you are using DVI or VGA, you will need to connect a cable from the audio out (headphone) jack on the computer to audio in on the TV. If you are actually using a HDMI cable, it is probably a setting somewhere.

HDMI I have no sound when hooking up my HDMI(cable output) to DVI.

DVI does not pass audio to the HDMI cable. You must use an audio cable (red & white RCA connector) for the TV

Wd65738 blue screen

blue screen means no video signal, if the source is on hdmi ensure the cable is rca or in simple audio video jacks which u will have to connect in the dvi input of the tv reason is hdmi means high definition interface and transmits by hdcp like the data of an internet meaning its digital platform which the tv can only process thru the dvi inputs or component y,p,b

What's your problem?I just purchased a I just purchased a Sharp LC32SV40U. I'm trying to hook it up with my Shaw Direct DSR 505 receiver (DVI to HDMI. I cannot find how to get sound using this

When using this type of adapter you only feed video into the TV/monitor
you have to use a separate set of RCA audio wires to feed the audio into your tv.

DVI cables are usually HDMI compatible. The downside is that DVI usually doesn't carry any audio. Your computer may need a specific audio card to transmit audio/video data from your DVI output to the HDMI input on the TV. You can find one at your local computer store and ask if it is compatible with your computer
I hope this helps...good luck

Can i connect a dvid cable from the monitor to my flat screen tv hdmi to watch videos from my computer? Thank you Martin

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals

What do I need to hook it up to an hdtv...what type of cables..DVI-D to HDMI?

Your laptop will need a HDMI output or a DVI output for HD video. If your laptop only has a VGA out the your tv will need a VGA or DVI input. You could use a vga to dvi adapter if your tv does not have a vga connector. They do have a DVI to HDMI adapter but there are a couple of problems with that. One you will not get the sound and the TV will only obtain sound from HDMI cable when connected that way and Two the TV will have problems processing the signal from the computer due to the HDMI will only process the HD signals at certain formats and the computer video can send out many different signals. I tried and I could not get my tv to process the signal so I got a video card that has a HDMI out and my blu-ray player works great.
