Dear dhenderso, It seems to be problem with LCD panel which is slightly expensive.So contact nearest sony service center.

The T-con board,the board that sit right at the bottom right in the middle of the center LCD panel.That board is dying.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-con board for the replacement.

Unfortunately that sound like a defective LCD panel. You can verify this by plugging the system into an external monitor. As long as the shimmering band does not appear on external display then it is the LCD. If it is under warranty I would suggest taking it into Apple.

I would check for dust particles before I attempted any type of repair on the unit.

Dust particles will appear as dark spots that are larger than the size of an individual pixel. It must first be determined if the particle(s) are on the LCD panels or the screen.

1/2 of the screen being dark would usually signal a bad panel. A service center could check for U if it is a bad backlighting or the panel. Possibility that the panel may need replacing. Let me know how it turns out. You can check the website to see if you can get parts to fix it. Many tv makers don't seem to make parts available, desiring U to buy a new tv about every year. I would stick with the big name brands/Panasonic, Sony, Samsung./Big name brands are more likely to have parts available to fix a broken tv.

u need to replace the tv backlight. it can be done by urself but its kinda complicated its better to just tak eit in to a repair man. shouldnt be that costly.

i think there may be some dead pixels.try to check it
