You have a problem with the sound? Have you tried a software solution? Open the case for what reason? I have tried to remove a Gateway ZX rear cover without damage ,It's almost impossible without damage to the machine.

Hello,

The Samsung 204B monitor have a know issue with failing power supplies that cause the exact problem you are having. At first they are a little slow to display a picture and the more you keep using it the longer it takes for the display to come on. The repair is simple if you can solder. Here is a link to a site with additional information on this repair. http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/samsung-204b-lcd-monitor-repair/ This Samsung 204B monitor is a great unit with a simple to solve issue. When my Syncmaster 204B (used as Monitor #2-1600x1200 60 hz) goes to sleep I can't get it back on. Power off/on, replug etc. every now and then it comes back. What's up?

Sounds like the powersupply is faulty. If it used to work for a moment then the picture dissapeared, and then if you turned it off and back on, the picture returned for a moment.

That would indicate a power supply issue, in that case it would definitely be a bad electrolyte capacitor or two. In your case I'm not sure but its either the power board or then there is something more complex wrong on the smaller mainboard inside the lcd back cover.

How do i tell wich version my syncmaster 204b power supply is

If you look at the board, you will see the p/n, manufacturer name, V (version) number. What kind of problem are you having with the monitors.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Powers on then back off in two seconds...I don't know how to open the case without destroying it..

hello,

Seems that your problem is not your Samsung Monitor. Please check very well. Since this is basically an indication that your CPU is not working that is why there is no display in the monitor and the yellow light turns to orange.

  1. Please try to use another monitor if you still have one that is working well. Then power up your computer and see if there is display on the monitor. If there is, then your reported monitor really has a problem. And if there is no display even in the new working monitor, then the CPU is in frozen state that is why there is no display on the monitor.

Flickering and then no picture

punchjackson, You or qualified electronics technician will need to open and visually inspect switch-mode-power-supply board to possibly determine cause of SMPS going into partial or full shutdown mode. Do some reading in fixya profile of "louie12fix" and then visit links you find there. Remember this!!! The basic design and operation of your 204B isn't any different than any other "cold cathode fluorescent-lamp" back-lit LCD monitor. Inspect all solder joints and electrolytic filter capacitors first. Then let us know what you find. Also do a visit to YOUTUBE for lcd monitor repair videos and see what a Bad Capacitor looks like before you open your unit. 12fixlouie

My samsung syncmaster 204b has a flashing light on the power-button and does not turn on anymore!

Hello,

The flashing power button is caused by a blown power supply. If you can solder then you should be able to do the repair yourself. Check out our web site at: www.ccl-la.com We have a step by step repair guide to repairing this model, showing how to open the case and do the repair. The repair requires replacing 5 small parts, about 15 minutes total time. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer repair services, check our site for details.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
