When a DVD disc is created, it is encoded with a "Region number." The disc will only play on DVD players with the same Region number - for instance, a Region 3 disc won't play on a Region 1 player.
Region 1: U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada
Region 2: Japan, Western Europe, Middle East, South Africa
Region 3: South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast and East Asia Region 4: New Zealand, Australia, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central/
South America
Region 5: Russia and the former Soviet Union, Africa, Indian
subcontinent, North Korea Region 6: China
The only way to get around the region codes, is to rip a DVD to your computer and remove the region code. Then burn the DVD to a DVD R. There are programs around on the net, but I'm not sure it is legal in all countries.
Google for the programs.

Most DVD players allow one change. So if you buy a region 1 player and live in region 3 you can change the region to 3. But if you return to region 1 you can't switch back.
If you have a computer and a toaster to burn your DVD's, there are program m's that can rip a DVD to a folder on your computer and then recode the files to a DVD that has no region.
If you have lots of DVD's it would be wiser to rip the DVD to the PC, remove the region code and put the content on a media player.
In a few years you can't buy DVD's. Perhaps some blue ray DVD with 4K or 8K HD will exist for a while, but ???

DVD players designed for the US are set for Region 1 and cannot be used with DVD's that are from other regions such as Great Britain and most of Europe which use Region 2 DVD's . What you need is a "Region Free" player which plays all regions or a player that plays your specific region. We live in the US but watch many British DVD series so use.a Region Free player as they are Region 2 and we are in Region 1.

maybe you can return the player or at least get some sort of credit for it towards the correct region player. If you are unsure of your region, just Google it.

South Africa Region 2.

1)Power on with no disc.
2) press et up.
3) Go to lock symbol (do not select).
4) Press zero - 0 seven times.
5) Shows open for all zones on screen.

Worked for me in South Africa hope it works in th UK
