Here are the most likely:
A. Lever will not move on some models if the shutter is already cocked. If the shutter is cocked, and will not release with new batteries INSERTED CORRECTLY, then the most likely is this...
Two capacitors in these Minoltas die over time. If you are handy at such things, you can buy the caps, remove top and bottom covers, remove the dead caps and solder in the new ones. Don't Panic.
You can find instructions on the web for this well known issue, and you can also opt to send it to a camera repair place. Garrys camera repair in Niles, ILL does it for about $58 incl return shipping. He will also clean, lube and adjust it for ya. Something they all need eventually.

While I'm sure this if often the case, I simply had to remove the bottom of the camera and manually move the release mechanism one time. I was opening it to inspect the capacitor as you recommended, however when it looked to still be in pristine conditions I determined it must be something else.

It looks as though my lever got stuck somehow how and need a little touch to get her moving again. Thanks for the tip anyway, but this is something else for the Non-Broken capacitor crowd to try.

    Thanks!

Minolta 700 film advance lever was working, then it wouldnt wind, now it is stuck.

Use or buy a brand new battery from store that sell lot of them.

Do not get from store that only has a few, meaning they have been sitting there for years.

The film advance lever is stuck on my Minolta Hi-Matic C. I bought this at a thrift store today to see if it worked. The film advance lever worked fine for a while and then got stuck. Put a new battery...

Have you rewound the film? If you rewind the file completely and pull out the rewind know, it will pop the back open . . . and can remove the film cassette. While the back is still open, complete the cycle on the winding crank. The winding crank should return to "Normal" arter you complete the winding cycle. When you close the back, everything should go back to normal.

I have a Minolta X-370 camera that will not advance the film. Lever seems to be frozen.

The shutter is already wound and the shutter is not releasing.
You may have bad shutter release capacitors if the batteries are good.

Help with minolta x-300s, i cant seem to move the film winder

Well, here's the most likely things going on:

1. dead battery. Your X-300 has an electronic shutter that needs battery power to work. Try fresh batteries and check the battery contact wires for corrosion.

2. End of roll. If you have film in it, try the silver button on the bottom. rewind film and try another roll of film. Before you put in the new film, try the advance, click, advance, click thing.

3. Not all rolls of film are perfect. Some are shorter than they should be, some hang up in the canister.

4. The Minolta X-series were well known to have a problem. Two cheap capacitors on the later models would die, locking up the camera. One is under the top plate and the other under the bottom plate. These caps need to be replaced. I suggest you send it to a repair shop for that. Check prices. Garry's camera repair in Niles, IL does a very economical repair on these. It runs about $50 and $8 for return ship. He will also Clean, Lubricate and adjust it.

You could also buy another 300/370 on Ebay, as they're inexpensive these days.

Best of luck. Hope its just the film or batteries. You might also consider joining the Yahoo Minolta groups.

Film Advance levar wont work. Milnolta x-700

The Minolta X-series (X-300/370, X-570, X-700) were known for this issue. Two capacitors under the top and bottom covers go bad over time. They prevent the shutter from releasing, so you cannot wind to re-**** the shutter. If you're handy at these things, you can buy the caps, remove the covers, solder in the new caps, and be fine. This issue is well known and you can find instructions on the web. Or you can send it in for repair. Garry's Camera repair in Niles,ILL will do it cheaply at $58 incl return postage. Minolta 35mm X-370 stuck shutter

You are probably on the right track with the batteries. Stick some fresh ones in and the shutter should release. Your may need to use the advance lever to re-**** the shutter and drop the mirror down. You could also try removing the lens and manually pushing the mirror down to see if it stays in the down position.
