I am unable to move Outlook Express 6 email files from my Compaq (running XP) to my new Asus PC (running Vista). I am using the MS procedure for manually copying them and can sucessfully paste the OE folder in the new PC, but when I use the Import command and get to the step asking me to click on the folder I want to import, I see the error message ''No items match your search.'' Apparently it does not recognize the file folder name as legitimate.
OE runs just fine on the old PC, even though I renamed the mail folder some time ago in order to remove the Windows User Identity Number from it. I did that in an attempt to solve a problem when I thought I had lost all my email files. Seemed to have no ill effects on my email operation since then. I have no idea how to recover that ID number if it turns out to be the cause, but I do need to move these mailbox files to my new PC.
Thanks for your help,
Don
This may be a mickey mouse solution but it may work.
On the vista machine go on internet and create a free web based email account(gmail,hotmail...etc)
From the old machine forward those emails to you web email account.
From your web based email account mail them to your pop3 account(outlook express address)
