SOURCE: camera not working

Jackboy is onto it, I think if condensation is the problem. But I also think that cleaning of the contacts is a good idea too. You can do this with a pencil eraser quite easily.

Lastly, you could try resetting the camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to the camera's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

Lastly, digital cameras need alot of battery power. ALOT. batteries with a higher mAh - like around 2500mAh would satisfy the higher power requirements of your camera.

I had the same problem.....3 beeps, no lens, no screen.  I was ready to shop for a new one, but I wanted to try all the different solutions given on this site. Well, tapping the bottom of my camera on my desk 3 times worked. Now all is well. Thanks to all.

Its not the batteries...I have the same camera and I am extremely dissapointed. I can put in brand new LITHIUM batteries and it will still beep 3 times...I also have the problem of the lens staying out...I will go to take a picture and as soon as I click the shutter button half way to focus it will turn off....Right now I am having this problem but this time the camera won't turn back on...It usually will turn back on after it does this...I have friends who also have the same camera and I was taking a picture for them and it did the same thing...just last night!

When i try to take a photo it comes up with F 2.8 1/30 on the screen for Samsung Digimax S500 Digital Camera. How can I fix this?

When the camera refuses t make a picture, please try putting the main dial to the automatic setting. (most camera's do have that little green camera logo on the dial. Put it there. Then try again.
When you tried one of the manual settings or the scene settings, and the camera does not get enough light, it could be it refuses to take the picture. Same when it can't focus, because there is not enough contrast.

Camera turns off when shutter button is pressed.

[source]Question about Samsung Digimax S500 Digital Camera[/source]
Try replacing batteries (high Ah photographic type).
The lens motor & electronics may be draining power if Ah capacity has dropped too low. At night, it could be that your flash is trying to fire (another drain), or shutter timer / mirror staying open longer.

Sony Digimax s500

If that is the case, you need to turn off your flash when
taking outdoor pictures because it seems that the pictures are overexposed.

Try to avoid the sun when taking pictures outside.

But you could try the steps below:

POWER RESET:
- Turn off camera
- Remove batteries for a minute
- Return batteries
- Turn on camera

MASTER RESET
- Turn on camera
- Press MENU button
- Scroll to the right until you see SETUP
- Scroll down and look for RESET
- Press right button so you could see YES or NO
- Select YES
- Press MENU button
- Turn off camera for a few seconds so that
settings will be refreshed

* If it still does not work, call the Manufacturer so they
could tell you how to send camera for repair.

Digimax samsung s500 beeps 3 times lens stuck wont stay on

Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.
