Just added new memory and now nothing comes up when powered up I checked to make sure I had the stick in correctly, but the computer beeps when powered up, and nothing shows up on the monitor...

Three beeps with no delay tells me bad memory stick or mismatched memory. Check to make sure they are installed correctly. Also if you have more than one stick you can check to see which one is bad by removing them one at a time and then powering it back on it comes on with no beeps you found the bad stick. If it does beep shut it down take out the other stick and replace the first one you took out. Try it again. This will tell you if one or both are bad.

Most of the time if a Desktop computer turns on but you see nothing on the screen,
It may be an issue w/ the monitor or it's cable connection.

Please verify that the monitor cable is connected to the correct port. By default the Dell™ Inspiron™ 530 only comes w/ a VGA monitor port (built-in graphics adapter) at the back unless you installed a discrete graphics adapter on the computer.

If the monitor is connected to the correct port then you might consider running a monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T).

How to do a Monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T)
1. Unplug the monitor's data cable, this is the cable that goes to the back of your computer tower.
If you are using an old monitor most likely you have a VGA monitor. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Make sure the monitor's power cable is plugged in.
3. Turn the computer on.

Remove added memory
If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

Open computer and reseat memory
Sometimes when the computer is moved and/or over time a memory stick can become loose causing the computer to be unable to read the memory or get errors as it's reading it. Try fixing this issue by opening the computer removing each of the memory sticks you have in the computer and then placing them back into the computer.
Swap memory location
If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer.
If you have more than one stick of memory try removing all but one stick of memory and boot the computer. If this does not resolve the issue try removing that stick of memory and try one of the other sticks of memory.
Try another computers memory
If you have access to another computer that uses the same type of memory try using its known good memory in your computer.
If another computers memory works you know that you have bad memory. If another computers memory does not work and it is compatible with your computer unfortunately your motherboard and/or the slots on the motherboard are defective causing it to be unable to properly read the memory, which means the motherboard will have to be replaced.
Replace memory
If you've determined or believe that the memory in y our computer is bad we suggest that you replace it.

Sounds like a memory error, try this:
With the PC unplugged remove any new memory you have installed then plug it back in a power on.
If you haven't added any new memory than you have a bad memory module. If there are two sticks remove one at a time and check to see if the system starts up(unplug pc before removing ram.) If it starts up than that is your problem. You can purchase new ram relatively cheap.

1 long, 2 short beeps indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.
This issue can be caused by any of the below situations.

1. New hardware conflicting with old hardware.
2. Bad or failing hardware device.
3. Connections not connected or connected properly.
4. Recent electrical storm that caused a surge that damaged computer.
5. Other hardware issue.

Disconnect the RAM from the Motherboard and turn on the computer. If the computer has a different beep code or if your computer was not beeping and is now beeping turn off your computer and try the below suggestions. Making sure to turn off the computer each time you're adding and removing the memory and then turning the computer back on to see if the suggestion resolves the issue.

Re-insert the memory into the same slot.

1. If you have more than one stick of memory remove all but one stick of memory, try rotating through each stick.
2. Try one stick of memory in each slot.

If you're able to get the computer to boot with one or more of the sticks of memory it's likely you're dealing with some bad memory. Try to identify which stick of memory is bad and replace it.
If you're able to get memory to work in one slot but not another slot. You're motherboard is defective you can either workaround the issue by running the memory in a different slot or replace the motherboard.
The RAM is located under the laptop behind a hidden panel.

Your computer is experiencing memory problems. Turn power off, remove and reseat the memory chips, and try it again. If not successful, try different memory chips. Also could be power supply problem

The supported Memory types for Dimension 2400 Series is PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC). Supported Memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB and a Max if 1GB (1024MB).

The first obvious question is does the new 512MB Memory module meet the above specification? Some Memory modules are able to steep down speed.

If it does, then first ensure the new memory module is properly installed. Take ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) precautions or you may damage the new memory module and/or the system board.

To proceed compare the system beeps and diagnostics lights color and sequence to the Advanced Troubleshooting guide.

It is possible that the new memory is DOA (Dead On Arrival). Or there is a new fault on the system. If you have access to another compatible system, you may test the new and old memory modules. You may also swap the new and old memory modules to determine if the memory slot is at fault.

Lastly, if you remove the new memory module, does the system complete POST (Power On Self Test)?. If it does you may indeed have a DOA or incompatible part.

I suggest you check you memory sticks, and make sure they are seated properly. The long beep usually signifies a memory problem. If you have 2 memory sticks, I suggest removing 1 of them, then tuen on the PC, if it still beeps, powerdown by holding the power button in until it shuts down, then replace the removed one, and remove the other, if it boots, fine, then you will need to replace the memory that you have removed, but,,,,,if you only have 1 memory stick, I suggest you replace it, if the pc still beeps a long beep, then 1 of the memory sockets is bad, and a motherboard replacement is needed, either case, that long beep is a memory problem.
