I found that if you open out the receiver at the back and make sure it is touching the windscreen it works for me. If not I don't get a signal. It is worse in one of our cars because it has a heat reflective windscreen.
I had this problem when I first started using this product. The key is to make sure you start at your last end point. ie - if you are starting from your house, make sure that you last route ended at your house. Otherwise it has a very hard time determining where you are. Also, you need to sit still while it finds the gps, it continues to look for a position, but has a hard time finding when you are constantly moving. I know it's annoying, but this seemed to help in the long run. Good Luck
