Depending on your laptop model it will vary on how to disable the fn function. First check if you numlock is on, if yes switch it off. Second check if your bios setting numlock is set to on, switch it off.

On the Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 there is a key located on the top right next to the F12 function key called "NumLk" or Num Lock.
Press this key once and the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
Press it a second time and it is disabled.
How do you know if it is enabled or disabled?
Simple: Observe the LED above the keyboard. If the second light with the square symbol and the number "1" is lit up, then the NumLock is enabled. If that LED is not lit up it is disabled.

Good Luck.

Laptop keyboard not typing letters

Which is it? Not typing letters or not typing numbers?
For your information there is an Fn+Fx key combination that activate the overlaid numeric keypad (your calculator). Figure out which function key to use with the Fn key.

How i can enble function key

HP laptops have the ability to lock the blue special function keys on, making numerical data entry easier on laptop models that do not have the room for dedicated numerical keypads. Because the key combination to lock the function keys is so simple, however, it is easy for those who wouldn't normally use this ability to do so accidentally. When the function keys are locked, pressing certain keys will result in numbers being typed rather than letters. Unlock the function keys to alleviate this issue.

Press the "Fn" and "Num Lk" keys on the keyboard simultaneously. The "Number Lock" indicator light should turn off, indicating that the letter keys will once again type letters when pressed. This combination should work on the majority of recent HP laptops. If it does not, try one of the alternate key combinations in this article's remaining steps. Press the "Fn" and "F11" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. If the combination does not work, continue to the next step. Press the "Fn" and "Scroll Lock" keys simultaneously, then attempt to type a letter. Continue to the next step if this does not work. Press the "Fn," "Scroll Lock" and "F11" keys simultaneously.

When i type the letters on my keyboard, the numbers show up instead. i don't know how to revert the system or functions back to normal. i must've accidentally pressed a button to change the characters when...

Sounds like the keyboard is in NUM LOCK mode

They keys map like this:

7 8 9 = 7 8 9
u i o = 4 5 6
j k l = 1 2 3
0 . = m .

Look for the NUM LOCK key on your keyboard.

Typically, you press the FN key (lower left corner) and the NUM LOCK key (typically towards the upper right) together to put the keyboard back into regular mode.

I have an acer aspire one and the keypad is not working its typing the wrong letters any suggestions why. It is not a year old yet

This is either a keyboard or setting problem. If the operating system is told the keyboard is a different type or the wrong location (language) you get weird results. Can even be a stuck key or even a function setting. Laptops use the FN-F7 key (usually) to turn on the numeric pad that is in the keyboard. That will also give you strange results.

If the keyboard doesn't have a stuck key and actually is the problem then it can only be replaced.

If its just a setting then you need to look under control panel for the keybaord setup and make sure it is set to the correct location language and type. A standard laptop keyboard is a 84 key and I believe the ones with number pads are 101 key.

Some keys register different characters. For example the O registers the number 6 when it is typed.

This should be a simple fix, look at your keyboard, you should have a function key and if you look at the number pads above the top row of letters there should be either a numerical symbol or a key pad, your keyb board is simply using several keys as an extended numerical keypad. If you look closely at the letters there are small numbers on them. To fix hold down function key and pressing the keypad button. You can also try pressing the number lock.

Blue characters on the keyboard when I type

It is a combination of key known as "Function" (Fn, for short). You have to press it and hold while pressing other keys showing the blue letters on it. The most common use is to make a virtual Numerical Keypad on laptops, so you can perform calculations. To be back to normal mode, you need to press FN+F8 (or the key with the Calculator icon).
