Acer Extensa 5620Z will not work with more than 2GB RAM??

Hi'ya, Got this machine with 2*512's. Upgraded to 2*1G - all ok. Just tried to upgrade to 2*2G and it bluescreens.
If I pull one module out, all is fine. If I replace that module with the one I took out, all is fine, too. If I leave the 2G in the lower slot and put one of the 1GB in the upper slot - bluescreen.
I am running Windows 7 x64

Interesting... I just called our local Acer distributor and they told me that 2*2GB is the maximum and they have deployed 4GB on 17 Extensa 5620Z's. They said that there are no driver/BIOS/Chipset updates to do.
However - Mine still bluescreens with 2*2GB....

Parrotheadpc is incorrect in stating "you can only have a total of 2048 mb installed".

the 5620Z accepts 2 x 2 GB SODIMM RAM, the machine boots and shows the full 4 GB in the BIOS.

the full 4 GB works with the Ubuntu x64 installer.

Windows XP x32 goes BSOD on startup.

Windows 7 x64 install from DVD fails with same BSOD error.

conclusion: this is a Windows-Extensa 5620Z incompatibility that would require a fix by ACER at the BIOS level.

question: there may be specific memory modules 2 x 2 GB which do work--anyone have it work with Windows?

not true. it takes the full 2 x 2 GB sodimm modules and on boot the BIOS shows the full 4 GB available.

Your ram is the spec below. You can only have a total of 2048 mb installed. That is all the BIOS is designed for with your system.

  • Module Size: 1GB
  • Package: 200-pin SODIMM
  • Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300

I went to www.crucial.com they are the memory distributors and have the specs for all units. Give them a try, they can scan your system or you can input the information manually.

I upgraded my memory RAM 2g and added 1g so it makes a 3G of ram but how come when my pc boot up up i can only see 2G ram single chanel. wen i go to my my computer----properties----general under computer:...

Could you please go online and in a search engine type "MAX RAM E-Machines (here put your model #)." Pick a link that secribes your maxi,um ram and if it's only 2GB you'll have your answer. If the max is higher there should be instructions on how to set the computer to acess and show the RAM.

Can i upgraded my acer aspire one pro P531h-0Bk netbook

    Hi,
The first models of acer aspire one pro P531h-0Bk is not able to get more than 1gb RAM, but the revised model is able to get this. So you MUST consult with your IT dealer.

You can upgrade your Hard disk.

Problem with upgrading my acer extensa 5620z memory to 4GB

    Hi there.
I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.

    Acer Aspire 5315

I have a friend who has an Acer Aspire 5315 running Vista and it was pretty slow right out of the box with 1gb of ram. I upgraded his Ram to 2gb and it ran moderatly faster and smoother. Vista is a demanding OS because it's so graphical in nature. Windows Vista requires more ram then XP plus a better CPU to run smoothly. His had a 1.6ghz Celeron which is not that great of a CPU to begin with but uping your ram will usually up your performance a few degrees. Be careful with cheap ram it can run hot and unstable. Make sure go with a name brand PNY, Corsair, Kingston, etc. Don't just buy House ram (generic) because it's cheap. It's not worth wasting your money on junk ram.

    Hope this helps. M~
