ok, this may be a silly question but when you turn it on and it starts flashing red, have you tried pressing the stand-by button on the remote. if a tv has been put on stand-by by the remote, and is then switched off by the set, when the set is turned back on it is still in stand-by mode and you need to press the stand-by button on the remote. other than that I don't know.
Sonys are known for this. The tv may be going into shut down because a circuit such as the power supply cirucuit or high voltage may need repair. Call a service man, you probably only need a portion of the circuit repaired not the whole board!
The red picture tube has an internal short. Hitch is that the tube is no longer availible. But the tube can be rebuilt. A tv shop can pull the tube assembly and ship it off. This is a very reliable repair but expensive. Average cost is between $400 and $500.
Try leaving the TV unpugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself. If that doesn't work, most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board. I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route. If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you flashing red light codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.
turn tv on picture comes up 2to3 seconds later tv blacks out then stand by red light flashes 4 times in a row repeatedly..can not turn on or off when stand by light starts flashing but before tv blacks out you can turn tv on and off repeatedly and picture and sound work.You have to unplug power cord for 30 seconds after stand by light comes on to get tv to turn on.
I had a 26" Samsung LCD that wouldn't turn on, and the red light stayed on too, so I knew it was getting power. I found some info out there and figured out how to fix it. Also made a video to show others. I'm a complete newb so if I can do it, I know a lot of others can too. Make sure you research stuff and be safe when fixing it. I take no responsibility if you mess up your own TV! But like I said, I fixed it, so I figured almost anyone can. Also, it only cost me $1.40.
