Sounds like the battery might be defective/worn out. If it's AA batteries (a.k.a. R6) try with a pair of good-quality alkaline batteries to see if it works then. Cheap batteries often doesn't have enogh "umph" to power cameras.

I have the Nikon Coolpix L100 camera and have had it for several months without encountering a single problem. I got a message saying that the batteries were exhausted and it shut down. I replaced the...

I have the same problem with my Coolpix L100. On 27 December 2010 after taking a few shots with flash, using rechargable batteries for one year, it displayed in Hungarian that the batteries are depleted, but after I have recharged them, the camera did not start again anymore, displaying in continue that the batteries are depleted, and it turn off itself after a few seconds. I think that the problem is with the sensor of the camera that should measure the battery status, because even if I had new batteries it desplayed an icon with half battery but I never let it depleted totally so far. Now I am wondering if NIKON will offer free service for it as I have bought it just about 16 months ago in the Romanian DOMO market chain.

E10 and s45 same problem

the batteries needed for the cameras are quite high powered

though the batteries show that they are fuly charged most times they have lost their actual capacity of power storage in them so not being able to supply enough to start the camera best way to test this is to start the camera on preview mode if this works then you will need to buy a new set of rechargable batteries, i would suggest to take batteries in the range of 2000MAh to 2500MAh and

the normal batteries will not be able to sustain long even for normal lens open and retract functions, instead of normal batteries try LR6 varieties (eg: Duracell, Energizer, etc)

You have to go for a rechargeable battery as duracell doesnt have enough current as the camera consumes more energy then a rechargeable battery has. go for uniross 2200 mha battery that is pretty cheap and best.

the 3 beeping sound as ou call it annoying means that the camera has low battery capacity. the lens is stuck out because there is incorrect battery connection. there is an option on the camera setting for the battery type. try this one:
-turn the camera on
-click on Menu button
-select options using left/right, up/down button
-select Set up 2
-Select Battery type
-Select Alkaline for non-rechargable
or Ni-MH for rechargable
-click OK button

this setting should be done when using camera for the first time and whenever you are switching battery types, from rechargable to non-rechargable and vice versa.

Batteries are Depleted

A camera rep told me that use about 2500mi (?) batteries instead of the 900 I was using otherwise the batteries will be depleted with just one picture. Digital cameras or any other digital piece of equipment needs the extra power. Make sure that your charger will charge the 2500 power ones fully.
