Gear selector I have a craftsman 6 speed transaxle lawn tractor model 917.272070. It will not engage any gears. It is as it the gear selector has beome disconnected, and/or the brake/clutch peddle is depressed. I checked to see if any thing is loose, but everything appears connected.

Gear shift lever is loose and mower will not move. this is on a craftsman lt1000.

Trace back the linkage from the shift lever to the transaxle to see if the linkage has come apart. If it is a manual, then I know the linkage connects to the transaxle on the top, forward, left of center. There is a retaining bolt (i think bolt, been a long time) that attaches the linkage to the transaxle. If this has backed out very much the linkage is not going to shift gears on the transaxle.

I hope this helps.

My craftsman lawn tractor 42" cut (2007 model) cuts off when i try to engage the cutting blades

You have a safety switch somewhere that is open, like the seat, you have to be in the seat or it will kill the engine, sometimes the clutch has to be in, not moving, sometimes the gear selector in neutral, You have a bunch of safety switches that prevent the mower from spinning if you are not in your seat, not ready, etc. Check them out. Hope this helps.

The mower wont engage in gear

@the rear of the tractor bottom left you'll see a metalrod sticking out and if it hasn't come off a decal with a picture of man pushing tractor that's it.

Craftsman 20HP , can't stop freewheeling,

Sounds like your problem is the key in your rear wheel is missing or sheared, you have to remove the wheel @ tire assembly ,pull rubber cap off then clip to remove if one of the keys is sheared or gone it will go into gear and the brake will work ,but they will only stop the shaft without the key it will not move or brake becuase its not attached if you know what I mean.
