I am using this adapter to connect to my WGT624v3 router. Both netgear. My computer is connected to my xbox360 and sharing its connection with the console. I can share the internet for xbox live, but when I play games, it will hang everyonce in awhile and suddenly catch up a couple seconds later. I wouldn't have a problem with this but it seems to happen alot and when I need a steady connection. Any ideas what it could be?

That's the thing. If it were close enough to the modem I would do that. But this is the best situation right now. Either I get this working or i was thinking of getting a powerline adapter for it all, eventually.

If you are using a wireless connection you could have a weak signal, move the router or the XBox to get a stronger signal.
You could be getting an interference with other wireless routers/access points in your area. Check the broadcast channels of the various routers/access points in your area and select a channel that is not being used for your wireless router.

I forgot to mention, have you secured your wireless router to prevent unauthorized access to your wireless router and the Internet?

  • Anonymous Sep 30, 2009

Is it possible to connect the XBox with a LAN cable instead of using the wireless, it is a bit inconvient but it may be better.

Is it possible to move the wireless router away from the concrete wall and or locate it higher to improve signal strength to the XBox?

Debug netgear router

I don't think it's the NetGear. Shut down the computer, unplug, remove battery, if applicable, unplug NetGear, wait for 30 seconds or so, plug in Netgear, wait for selftest, plug in computer, reboot. I don't know the laptop or OS you are using so a general idea is all I can give. Does your NetGear have a SSID and Security Password? You can always reset to default settings. That said, I think it's your laptop that the issue. Have you tried to connect via a Ethernet Cable? Have you open the Network Adapters , and disabled and enables, tried a Diagnose and repair ? Have you opened the network and sharing center , Manage Network adapters and remove from Auto connect? Restart and select your wireless, put in your password.

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Netgear Wireless Router 108 MBPS

It's not the same. Your Netgear router version is V1. I did not find any downloadable upgrades either - I have the same router. My connection problem turned out to be between my DSL modem (AT&T), router and PC. What I needed to do was, under "Basic Settings," click no where it asks if your service requires login, then at the bottom of the tab, click the option to acquire the MAC address directly from the wired (desktop) computer. ("this computer" on the tab) Once I had done that, the router enable the modem correctly and I could use the desktop and the wireless access for my laptop. Frustrating, because if you have AT&T as your service provider, Netgear's instructions tell you to do the exact opposite.
