I solved this problem by finding an answer on the Tom Tom website. Using a paper clip end insert it on the reset button and press for at least 10 seconds. The reset button is difficult to find; it's located close to the connector at the base of the unit. It is an annoying problem as it happens without any rhyme or reason. I now carry a paper clip in the car!
Having read some of the other fix's here goes:
My GO 710 would not turn on. I thought the reset hole was just by the release button for the window clamp.
The reset button is actually just around the back of the Tom Tom. Where the Tom Tom connects to the window clamp, there is a tiny hole. Try using a needle to push the button in for 10 seconds, then press the on/off button. Worked for me!
If your still looking for the reset. Hold the Tom Tom with the back looking at you and memory card nearest you. Then look at where the window clamp/home dock locks in. Above that is a tiny circular hole. Put needle in there for 10 secs and your done!!

I suppose that you should check up the articles at support pages on TOMTOM web site first by entering the following words "turn on" to search window. You may find the answer at the top of results.

Partly your advise is right, but you should mention that SD card should be removed before using paper clip.

this was very helpful. You need a paper clip and patience. You know when it is inserted correctly because the green light appears. Press and hold for 10 secs or more slowly then release. Then hold the ON button. That should do the trick. Good luck peeps :)

STEP 1 - BACKING UP YOUR TOMTOM DEVICE
- Click 'Manage my device' in TomTom HOME and select the 'Items on device' tab
- Select 'Maps' and 'Postcodes'
- Click 'Copy items to computer'
- Close HOME
STEP 2 - FORMATTING YOUR TOMTOM DEVICE
IMPORTANT: ONLY continue if you were successful in making the back up of your device
For PC users:
- Open My Computer. Right click on the TomTom device drive and click 'Format'. Make sure Quick Format is not selected.
For Mac users:
- From the Finder menu, click 'Go'
All you need to do is press the reset button momentarily (holding it down does nothing) and then hold the power button for a five count or until it boots.
If reset does not work for you, it may be a charger connection issue, even though the green light comes on when plugged in. When plugged in to your home charger, put pressure on the top of the TomTom, pushing down and toward you. The green light will get slightly brighter and the unit should turn on when you hold the power button for 2 seconds. You may have to play with it a little bit.

My tom tom go 510 will not turn on. It is fully charged and green light is on when connected to power.
I've had the exact same problem with my TomTom One Third Edition and to fix it, I pressed the reset button located at the bottom of the device for 15 seconds, then pressed the On button for at least 5 seconds and it should turn on. It works like a charm every time but you have to press the reset button down for 15 seconds, followed by the On button for at least 5.
I came to this site with the same problem read a few comments that said i should reset, went to the tomtom site and found out how to reset and it started working....Just try holding down reset button for like 20 secs..

I have a TOM TOM 710 with exactly the same problem. The green light is on on the charger and that's it. I've tried the reset button to no avail!
