    These computers are supplied to Australian school students for educational purposes and DET have placed blocks on certain Internet sites to make sure you don't get into trouble. Sorry you have to live with it, or get your own computer, then you can set it up the way you want.

Hey everyone. Im a bit of an IT geek at my school, and i've figured out a way to run certain applications. If you turn on your computer, boot it in "Safe Mode With Command Prompt" than log in and everything, than in command prompt type in "start explorer.exe"...explorer.exe is the system32 file that runs basically your whole computer, which won't start automatically in safe mode. You than go to the application that you want to run, right click and select "run as administrator" it should work. You can also run mini games if they are .swf format and open in Flash player. you can do this in normal mode aswell, as an added bonus. The safe mode technique can come in handy if you have (or made) a proxy program, that will unblock most sites for you. If anyone has any questions, add me on msn and ask me there; [email protected].
sorry if i can't be of more help, but this is all i can share with you, that is until i figure out other techniques. Have fun, and use it wisely :P.

    by the way, the internet filter is built onto a chi0p INSIDE the actual computer, and if it is removed, the computer recognises that it's gone, for it's part of the secondary circuitry in your machine. So removing it is out of the question. Im afraid that i can't be of more assistance on this topic.

    hey guys, IT_Geezer_17 again, i've figured out a way of getting EVERYTHING unblocked on the computers, yes i said EVERYTHING all you need is some security screwdrivers, a USB Sata external laptop hard drive case, and a program called "Active Password Changer." If you remove the hard drive from the laptop, put it in the Sata, plug it into another computer that has "Active Password Changer" installed on it, and uninstall the "Blue Coat Proxy Client" this program is what blocks all the websites at school, and without it, at HOME you can go on any website you want, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube etc. but unfortunately, you will still have the blocks at school, because they are network based proxies. If you run "Active Password Changer" you can promote your user account to an Administrator, and you can install programs, change administrator settings, and change things that you can't normally change. This is very handy, but also can be quite confusing if you dont know what you're doing. I'd suggest that you make sure you know what you're doing before opening up your Laptop and pissing around with it. I had done all of this on my laptop, and than they re-imaged the hard drives, so it was all undone :( but that's okay, i did it all again. If you have any questions, contact me, either by email or add my msn [email protected] Good Luck to you all, Let me know how it goes!

You need to use proxies or redirectors to get around whatever junk program they are using to block your sites. Try these:

www.launchmyspace.com
www.launchfacebook.com
www.stupidcencorship.com
www.unlockbypass.com
www.youhide.com
www.proxify.com

Sometimes they do disappear, but that will get you started. If one doesn't work, google the site that doesn't work and it will come up with other proxies.

    Well, Geekman certainly may be correct, but I am simply providing you information with regards to the question that you posted. I cannot be responsible for your specific situation, what computer you use, and how you choose to use it. The information certainly has a plethora of legal purposes. You see, I can teach you how to do something, it is up to you to know whether it is allowed or not, or if you wish to do it anyway because of the limited risk associated. But Geekman is right, this is your call, Geekman just wants to police the issue while I want to spread free ideas and let individuals decide what they may rightfully act on.

@mr_macphisto...
as I answered your other problem that's related to this topic, try to get a teacher's account or a Tafe account. But if you manage to know a teacher's account, DON'T use it on your school laptop, cos there's a chance of you getting into trouble! If you want to use it, just use it on a school PC, way better chance of not getting caught! ..& if you by any chance be able to get hold of a teacher's account, you might be able to create fake teacher net accounts, maybe.. maybe!
For Tafe accounts, just ask around if anyone has one, family, friends, etc.

@Geekman...

yes the school laptops are for 'educational purposes', but you're allow to use it for personal use, at a minimum.

Everything that you do, are 'educational'... just thing about it!

@ejkudelka... all of those sites that you listed are blocked... lol!

Ohk, even though i would love msn and facebook and everything else on my laptop, can u imagine how distracting that would be?
expecially when ur actually trying to study from the laptop, msn would always be there and i knoe that if it was there id go on it instead of doing what i was meant to be doing. think about it.
but i do wish theyd at least unblock it in the holidays.

I'm sure everyone already knows that you can store exe files in C:\Program files\Abobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Presets, and that you can access most websites for "Educational" with a tafe account. As well as accessing all media types besides video with a proxy.

However me being a Det Laptop user as well, I strongly recommended you not to use these techniques. Don't think they are not tracking you, its just that its a waste of their time to track a single person and punish you. lol create a proxy, everything you see goes through the schools ISP which is organised by the government, use a tafe account that quite obvious as they track when you log in/out and with what accounts.

For the games, the is tracing file which records every action you've done, delete that you get a record of you deleting it. So if you want entertainment i mean educational resources just download videos at home and use your laptop to watch them or go to websites that are already unblocked

I have a school laptop and sites like facebook, yahoo, myspace are all blocked sites, how can i access them.

The best way to do that would be to use a proxy server, but that might be blocked by the school too. You could run a proxy server at home, and set up your laptop to use that proxy to connect to the internet so that the internet traffic will be routed through your home. But you could get into trouble with school authorities for doing that.

Proxy for DET filter/blocks

You'll very rarely find Proxy/unblockers sites that are unblocked.
If you find a website that's meant to be blocked, but isn't blocked yet, it'll soon be blocked!
A few months ago, my friends found a website that'll let you go on any website, Facebook, Myspace, & Redtube, but within a week of the website being constantly used, it was eventually blocked! :(

What you need is a teacher's net account, or a tafe account.

The school computer has it blocked and i cant figure out how to unblock it

Unblocking invovles using "proxies", which you will need to type into internet settings. Most likly, to school has blocked the internet settings, so if you install Firefox on a memory stick (portable edition), then access the preferences, you can bypass the filtering system. If you have an unfiltered internet at home, then you can both of these things, and see you can get past it. Once you have installed firefox portable
(http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable)
plug the memory stick it is installed onto into the school computer. From here you should be able to launch it and access the settings. (proxies are in the "networking" section)(Oh.. and get the proxies at home and write them down on something) However, the school may havee blocked launching programs of memory sticks, in which case you can access old copies by typing into "live search" (a microsoft search engine) and then clicking "cached copy".
Whoa! not easy is it?!
hope you have some luck!
