Everytime I change the AA batteries in my Fuji FinePix S9000, I must reset the time and date, even if the camera was without batteries for only 15 seconds. Is there an internal battery/capacitor that needs to be changed?
Hi
I started having a similar problem with my Fuji FinePix F10 after about 3 1/2 years of problem-free use. Another poster had some really helpful advice which I thought I'd pass on. It seems there is an internal battery or capacitor which basically fails after a while, meaning date/time settings etc are lost when the battery is removed. (Some people claim this is a motherboard/chip problem instead - seems to be contentious!) So the camera is faulty, but the problem can be worked around.
The advice I found, which worked for my camera, was this:
- Turn off camera and leave off for approx 15 seconds before opening battery door.
- Change battery quickly (within a few seconds).
- Close battery door and leave camera off for approx 15 secs before turning back on.
This retained all settings when I tested it multiple times. I imagine it might not work if changing over a totally dead battery though.
Hope it helps!

It has a 6-hour capacitor to hold the settings.
It is not user replaceable. See page 16 of your manual.
Before removing the batteries, make sure the camera is OFF or the cap will discharge.
It may be as bad a hassle, but if the ac adapter is connected while you change the batteries, the settings will keep.
