Check the door switch to see if is working and try another light bulb or try the light bulb somewhere else to see if the light bulb is good. Check to if vent holes coming from the feezer are blocked by something in the fridge. This will make it feel like your fridge is not working.

Lights in my kenmore refrigerator, freezer on bottom, burned out. I purchased two 60w bulbs and replaced them. I plugged in the refrigerator and the lights were on. Then a couple of minutes later,

Hello Sharon;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You can not put normal house hold appliance bulbs in appliances. There are special bulbs for refrigerators, clothes dryers and close washers.

The bulbs are usually available in the local market and marked; "Refrigerator" and Freezer".

You may have a bad door switch. But, I am more prone to go with the wrong service bulb.

Your Friend,

Peter, Baltimore, Maryland, USA

yes to both, and I believe to remove the light bulb cover you gently lift up and out to gain access to the bulb.

How to change light bulb in Kenmore refrigerator serial no. 4A31214613 ?

Open freezer and reach to the back of the plastic cover over the light. You'll feel a gap in the back center of the cover. Gently pull forward and the cover will drop down and pull to the back to fully remove it. Once you've removed the cover you can unscrew the bulb, which you can use to make sure you purchase one like it and most hardware stores, such as Ace or Home Depot. Reverse the removal instructions to install light and cover. Light should turn on once you've screwed it in.

The lights stopped working in the refrigerator. I thought both bulbs had blown and replaced them. Still no lights. Is there a fuse to replace? Not sure what's going on.

Check lights connection with thermostat for correct connection. if there is a short or arching then you will keep replacing these bulbs.

Replaced 30 watt bulb in refrigerator section with 25 watt bulb still will not light otherwise working well, my be switch . freezer section light works

Either the door switch or the light socket is bad. Disconnect the refrigerator and pull the switch out and test it with an ohmmeter for continuity.

How to change light bulb in refrigerator

Hello,

Unplug the Whirlpool refrigerator from the electrical outlet.
Step 2
Locate the bulb on the inside of the Whirlpool refrigerator.
Step 3
Remove the light cover. Usually these just snap off, but, on some models, they may need to be unscrewed. Use your screwdriver to unscrew the light cover retaining screws (if required).
Step 4
Unscrew the old light bulb.
Step 5
Screw in the new light bulb.
Step 6
Replace the light cover. Plug the Whirlpool refrigerator back in. Test your new light bulb.
Also note that the below can also work

Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
Slide the light bulb cover toward the back of the compartment to release it from the light assembly.
Replace burned-out bulb(s) with appliance light bulb(s) no greater than 40 watts.
Replace the light bulb cover by inserting the tabs on the cover into the liner holes on each side of light assembly. Slide the cover toward the front until it locks into place.

NOTE: Do not force the cover beyond its locking point; doing so may damage the light cover.
Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.
To change the freezer light bulb:

Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

NOTE: You may need to remove the upper freezer shelf or basket to access the light assembly.
The light bulb cover opens from the back. Firmly press forward on the notches in the back of the cover and pull down the cover.

Remove the cover and replace the burned-out bulb with an appliance bulb no greater than 40 watts.
Insert the front tabs of the cover into the liner and snap the back portion of the cover over the light assembly.
Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Good luck in applying the solution

Only freezer works

Hi: When you plugged it in how long did it take for the bottom to warm? If it was a week or two it might be your defrost heater(frost builds where it shouldn't). It's just a wire in a glass tube like a light bulb, and will be fragile after years of service. When the freezer works and the fresh food dosn't it means there is no circulation between the two. Frost will build up where you don't see it, and it's where the air channel is between the freezer and the fresh food. When moving a ref. it usually is the def. heater. The light bulb is isolated from this circuit so it may just be the bulb (the filament got shook) or the switch. Good luck Jeff
