The machine did not complete its cycle, either while finishing a brewing cycle or a cleaning cycle. This is caused because the motor is not strong enough and overheated. I think it is a design problem, but there is a "work-around" solution.
First, to put basket back, look inside opening. You will see a flap at the back of the opening. This flap is down and is what is preventing insertion of basket. Take only the grounds basket. Tilt the grounds basket and insert it so the back end of basket goes under the flap. Then level out the basket. Note the flap is now inside the back end of the grounds basket. Holding the basket up and level, re-insert the drip tray and the basket holder underneath the basket. These should now slip into place.
The "work-around" solution is to let the motor cool down. Unplug the machine for at least 30 minutes, then turn unit back on, and the cycle should complete because the motor is now cool.
I notice this error 8 happens mainly when the voltage from the Hydro Utility is low. This happens during peak electricity usage hours. So, to clean your machine, do it on the week-end during the daytime either mid-morning or mid-afternoon.

Good luck

The Brew unit is stuck while it was moving up & Down. this brewing unit is blocking the basket to go inside.

Switch the unit off than switch it back on.

If still the brew unit doesn't come back to its default position you need to service your brew unit.

Error code 5d on wirlpool cabrio

You may know this already but 5d means that the washer is detecting suds. So there actually should be SOME water all the time below the inner basket, but nothing that you can physically see. That being said, suds is just an error stating that there are either too many suds in the tub or the washer isn't draining properly. So I'm going to list both scenarios and what to do for each.

If you see water in the tub and it's not actually draining:

You'll need to tip the the washer backwards and unplug the unit so you can get under the washer. The drain pump is mounted to the back of the washer under the tub. It will need to be removed to check for any blockages. If you find nothing, then drain all the water out and try the washer again. If you get the error code again and you found nothing in the drain pump, you need to replace the drain pump itself.

If the washer is draining normally but still giving the error:

This means that the washer isn't sensing the water level properly. You'll need to remove the control panel and there is a main control board in the back right corner. The water level sensor is actually built into this board. Disconnect the small rubber hose connected to the control board and blow through the hose to make sure it's clear. Try the cycle again and if you continue to get the error, replace the control board. Below is a video that shows you how to replace the control board. The video is about an F1 error, but the control board in question is the same part, and replacement is the same so ignore the error.
The water causes the tub to float so you still need to check the drain line. If that checks good, then you need to check the tub bearing and see if it's good. If it's good, replace the control board still. If the shaft is rusted and the basket can't pull up and down easily, then you need to replace the parts or stand it down a bit.

Below are the steps to follow if you are mechanically able to tackle the issue with checking the basket for floating properly or not:

1. Unplug the power cord
2. Lift the top of the washer up, to do this there are 2 latches in the seams between the top and the bottom sections. These latches are about 6 1/2 inches from the right side and left side of the washer. You need to insert a small screwdriver (be careful not to scratch the paint) and push the latch while lifting the top section.
3. The top will actually fold back leaving the inner tube fully exposed. Support the glass lid so it doesn't get damaged because it is very heavy and will fall open when you flip the top back.
4. Remove the plastic top of the tub. There is one hose connected at the back and there are several snaps around the outer edge that hold it on. Remove the hose and unsnap the snaps and set it aside.
5. Remove the cap covering the very center of the agitator. It is just snapped in place and can be pried off with a small screwdriver.
6. Remove the center screw under the cap.
7. Remove the agitator, you need to lift it evenly and might have to work your way around by pulling on one of the three fins and then the next and so on. I also had luck using a small pair of needle nose pliers and grabbing a small lip inside the area where the screw was and pulling from there.
8. Remove the 6 Phillips screws in the middle holding the plastic top gear in place. Be very careful you don't drop one of the screws because it can fall through the slots in the basket and be lost below.
9. Remove the plastic top gear.
10. Pull the plastic lower gear off of the splined shaft. It should pull right off.
11. Now you need to pull the basket up and off of the shaft. This is where you might have problems because the basket might be corroded to the shaft. If you can grab the basket on both sides under the outer lip and pull upward it might pull up. If not, then you will have to figure out a way to get it off.
12. Once the basket is off you will notice there is liquid inside of it. That is factory sealed in there so do not worry about that, it is normal.
13. With the basket is off you will be able to see that the shaft is probably corroded and the inside bearing on the basket is corroded. Clean these both off very good and check to see if the basket can easily go back on the shaft and slide up and down without getting stuck. You may need to sand and file the shaft a little bit to get it totally cleaned up. The inner bearing of the basket is plastic so it is pretty easy to clean with light sanding.

Fisher and Paykel washer fault code 40. Is it possible to repair DIY. What to look for?

This is error code 40.
40. (00101000) Basket Dis-engage Fault
While carrying out a basket check, the Motor Control Module has found that the basket is
not engaged even though the pressure sensor indicates that the basket is empty. The
Motor Control Module continues to check for 2 minutes, after which time it displays this
fault. The first two areas to check are the clutch and the pressure tube. If these two
appear correct, then the fault could be in the pressure sensor in the Motor Control Module.
Primary Source: Mechanical.
Action: 1) Check that there are no clothes or other foreign objects preventing
the clutch from re-engaging. Excessive suds can stop the basket
rotating.
2) If the machine is empty of water, carry out a clutch disassembly
procedure and check the spline drive.
3) Next check that the pressure tube has not come off and that it is
not kinked.
Secondary Source: Motor Control Module.
Action: Replace Motor Control Module.

Error code E8 appears mid wash, heater is working ok, machine has been hooked up to the hot water instead of cold. I have since directed cold water through water valve.

hot water form the house takes less power to bring up to machine temperature so by hooking it to cold water will increase the power consumption
call a service center and get the explanation for the error codes and that will explain what is faulty
you didn't mention the make and model of the unit and every error code appears different
for example in a fulgor milano machine code 8 is failure of orientation of distributary valve ===causes open circuit or break of distributary valve
for hoover nextra e8 is dishwasher has failed to heat with water in a reasonable time or has failed to detect the water heating element===causes check water heating element/wiring--check wiring to main control module
go google and type in-- dishwashing machine error code 8-- and see if there is any site for your machine to get the error code and causes
other than that get in a service technician for a correct diagnosis and fix

Whirlpool cabrio washer doesn't start, Can I fix this by myself?

If you replaced the lid lock then you know how to get the top of the cabinet up lift the top up there should be a technical sheet in a plastic packet on the front panel it will tell you how to run a diagnostic if not there turn machine off press and hold any button except power/cancel for 3 seconds release 3 seconds repeat until 88 appears after that any fault codes should appear I have only had to replace a control twice on these units I am curious to see if you get an F50 or F51 code this is the most common when this machine first starts the lid should lock a short rotation of the basket lid unlocks then locks a short fill then rotation of the basket let me know what you find could be the control but I would like to eliminate the rotor and RPS sensor

I have a CME 256 as 1d machne and the fan will not run. replaced the fan and thats not the issue. do I need a new control board?

Check the fan control switch. The switch closes at 240 PSIG. Then fan comes on. The switch opens at 190 PSIG. Then the fan will cycle off until presser rises. Check to make sure you have power to the switch while in freeze cycle if you do then check the other side ow switch to make sure you have power going through switch if not then either switch is bad or you are low on refrigerant. The switch part number is 11-0479-21. either way if switch is bad or low on refrigerant the refrigerant will need to be recovered and switch will need to be removed and sweated back in and a vacuum pulled and charge weighed back in. Do not replace the control board.

F51 & F72 Codes

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

Basket Re-engagement Failure.

F then 72 flashes when the basket check routine fails to determine if the basket is re-engaged after being disengaged.
Is the basket floating? If yes, pump out water. See Long Drain.
Does basket turn freely? If not, determine cause of friction.
