There are no replacement parts for this fan available, however I managed to get mine spinning like new after it had died. I took the two halves of the fan body apart, and scraped the heat sink compound off either side of the power plate. I then applied CPU heat sink compound that can be found at any computer or electronics store liberally to either side, and put it back together. The fan spins like new, spread the word!

Ecofan not working

The problem is most likely a bad TEG module or possibly a bad fan motor. The most common problem is a failed TEG module. Caframo will not sell replacement TEG modules as they require you to return the fan to them for rebuild but the repair is quite easy. You can find the exact replacement on eBay or directly through Thermal Enterprises. They even have a troubleshooting and repair guide for the fan.

Ecofan troubleshooting

Given the age of the unit and the job that it does, it may need to be overhauled and lubricated. This would include removal, cleaning, inspection and replacement of any parts that are worn, lubrication and reinstallation.

How do i fix my Ecofan ?

Does the motor have bearings or bushings? If bearings, they likely need replaced. If bushings, clean with alcohol then lubricate with 3-in-1 oil.

When I go to SEAL, it burns a small hole clear thru the bag. One little metal peice on the sealing strip has burned right thru the white heating strip, therefore, it isn't sealing completely.

You need new tape to replace the one presently covering the heat element. You can get a roll of it for just US$7.99. Look at the FixYa question "where [or how maybe] can I get a new tape." I think that you have to be sure that the heat element is flat. I bought a used unit with that problem and the element had somehow gotten bent. Ordered the tape this morning and the cost is worth the hopeful fix.

What is the power system for ecofans - these are the fans / motors which run on electricity generated by temperature differentials in two different and adjacent metals. I would likt to build my own if...

The power source is a thermoelectric module (TEG). Failure of this module is the most frequent cause for fan problems. You can get replacement modules for these fans on eBay.

Our Eco fan does not turn. It fell on the wood stove once and bent the fram a bit , then it started working, now it doesn't at all. What is up?

It sounds like something is binding on it. Anything of this type (referred to as a heat engine or external combustion engine) need very low resistance. There may be a bent shaft or a small ding that is rubbing on one of the rotating parts. Good luck.

Fan just stopped turning, even if the fire is going good, what could be wrong?

Bushings dried out at rotating shaft. Clean and Lubricate with a high temp. dry film lubricant.

The most likely problem is either mechanical binding (lack of lubrication) or a bad thermoelectric module. You can get replacement modules for these fans on eBay.

My ecofan quit working. Blades rotate rough

Sounds like a bad thermoelectric module. This module is what generates the power to run the fan. You can get replacement modules for these fans on eBay.

Ecofan only turns slowly

These fans can be rebuilt! Like many others, our fan died after being placed in the center of the stove top. I took the two halves of the fan body apart, and scraped the heat sink compound off either side of the power plate. I then applied CPU heat sink compound that can be found at any computer or electronics store liberally to either side, and put it back together. The fan spins like new, spread the word!
