go into the BIOS setup and find settings for SATA operation or something similar. the available options should be
1. Native SATA/IDE
2. AHCI supported
3. RAID
windows xp was installed with SATA support but requires special drivers for AHCI or RAID, so you should set your computer's SATA operation to native or IDE in order to solve the problem.
Additional tip:
next time you manage to boot to windows, boot to safe mode (boot while pressing F8), so you can review if all the drivers are well installed in device manager.

disable the motherboards built-in ethernet adapter in BIOS and get an add-on ethernet card. it sounds like your ethernet card is damaged and its affecting the rest of the computer.

Try downloading the latest BIOS update and audio driver for you motherboard!

Can't WinXP find appropriate driver for your lan card? If Asus did not provide a driver for its built-in lan, i think windows XP already has the driver built in its cache. try to install it using the wiz.

hi, I think you have not finish yet your OS installation, when installing OS just wait for it till you have see the start menu pop-up then there you go, you can now remove your installation CD. And express gate is a browser included in your ASUS motherboard that lets you boot up in seconds and enjoy your stuff even your OS is not fully loaded yet..

Reinstall and during the install press F6 when it ask if would like to install 3rd party drivers and have the driver disk for your hard drive ready and install those when ask.once it is done it should complete the xp install and restart correctly.

Here it has the drivers and also a link for the manual. I would suggest downloading the files to another computer and burning CD to use on the other system.

Try going to the Asus website and look for support for your MB drivers and Operating System.

If there is no longer any Win98 support for your MB then I suggest a fresh computer and more recent software for less hassle!
A ten year old OS indicates to me that you might be stuck until you go with the flow!
Cruel but true.
Hopefully the recent cheap prices for computers pre-installed with Vista or XP will persuade you.
