Sharp Carousel R-1480 doesn't heat

I have been browsing the web, and all the information I read points to a bad magnetron.

Question1 :
How does one replace a magnetron?

Question : If I just want to replace my current Microwave is there another model that has the same dimensions? [it is a built in Microwave]

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions (similar to these) are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(even if the magnetron passes these tests, it can still be bad. If you have high voltage and the diode is good, assume the magnetron is bad)

You would have to remove it from the wall to replace the magnetron, take off the outside cover, discharge the capacitor, then disconnect the magnetron's wires and mounting nuts.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it for you here.

(Our site is down as I write this, but rest assured it is there.)

You can order parts for this brand from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Most manufacturers can offer a "drop-in" replacement if you tell them your model number. Call Sharp toll free at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277).

My R1514F Sharp Carousel microwave does nothing. The lightw work, the clock works, but does not heat

No heat can be a bad inverter board (power supply) or a diode or the Magnetron itself.

What keeps blowing my fuse on my Sharp R-1480 microwave oven ?

A short circuit diode will do that or shorted turns in the magnetron high voltage transformer, or the magnetron or a sticky/contaminated door switch.
Hope that helps.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

Sharp carousel r-508ak - does not heat up the food

You probably have a defective magnetron or blown fuse supply power to magnetron.

Sharp microwave oven model r-1440 runs, but doesn't heat food

Assuming your inside light and turntable come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a bad magnetron or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Noisy

That's probably a shorted high voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

Sometimes a failed magnetron sounds like someone gurgling into an empty coffee cup.
