Generally, on all self cleaning ovens, they heat the ovens to 500 degrees or better, which basically just "cooks" off any spillage and residue to a powder that can be wiped out after the cycle ends. Due to the extreme heat generated during the cleaining cycle, most will "lock" the door until the thermostat cools to the point that it signals the board to unlock. If yours is a wall oven, it may be well insulated and take a longer time to cool off. If a free standing stove/oven, it also is insulated and has to cool and "sense" by thermostat that it is safe to allow the door to open and operations to begin. This is another "safety override" mandated by the FTC and US Govt. And it's a good one. Otherwise, the exposure to suits by the consumer who did not allow the cooling down period would bankrupt the manufacturers. This is normal, the long cool down period, however if you feel it is taking too long, you could have someone check the location of your thermostat bulb and make sure it is suspended in its mounts clearly, so that it may "sense" the correct tempature. Or you could initate the cleaning cycle at a time when you did not need the oven for a period for cooking chores. I'd say, given the extreme temps used during this process, you should expect at least an hour and a half to over three for the cool down to allow the unlock. Check your owners manual and see if there are instructions there as to the cool down period and the lock. Or google the makers name and model # on the web, and check with their Customer Service or Technical Dept. if you don't have a manual. Hope this helps. Patience is a virtue, it's just hard to keep thinking about draining the swamp when your'e up to your neck in alligators.

SOURCE: "door lock" light stays on and oven won't work

This happened to me, had the appliance repairman come out to fix. He hit and held a combination of buttons on the oven controls and reset the panel somehow. But now I don't know what he hit to clear it. Do any of you?

How does the self-clean feature work on a Frigidaire CFEF366EMB model?

Hi Beverly,

I understand that you are looking to run your self-clean feature on your Frigidaire range, model# CFEF366EMB.

-To start this you will remove all racks and make sure that any excessive spillovers are cleaned up as best as you can.
-Next you will press the "Clean" button, and the display will show "---".
-Press the up or down arrows to select the length of time you want the oven to clean. Usually 2 or 3 hours.
-The door will automatically lock once your time has been chosen and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the door while the light is flashing. (it takes about 15 seconds for the oven door to lock).
-"Cln" will appear in the display during the self-clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will continue to glow until the self-cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven has cooled.

When the self-clean cycle has completed:
-The time of day or "END" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow.
-Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened.
-If "END" is in the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press the "CLEAR/OFF" button and the time of day will appear on the display.
-When the oven is cool, wipe away any residue or powdered ash with a damp cloth or paper towel.

-Best Regards-

How do i operate the self cleaning function

Hello - Before using the self-cleaning cycle of the appliance, remove the broiler pan and any utensils stored in the appliance. Also remove any excess spillovers in the oven cavity. Allow the oven to cool before cleaning. During the self-cleaning cycle, the outside of the wall oven can become very hot to the touch.

Typically to set the controls for a self-clean the first step is to confirm that the clock shows the correct time of the day. Press CLEAN. "---" appears in the display. Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW once. "3:00" appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle. To change to a 2 hour cycle press DOWN ARROW"2:00" appears in the display. As soon as the controls are set, the motor drive lock will begin to close automatically and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the oven door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the over door to lock). "CLn" will appear in the display during the Self-Clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will glow until the Self-Cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven temperature has cooled.

When the Self-Clean cycle has completed, the time of the day or "End" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow. Once the over has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. If "End" is the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press CLEAR/OFF. The time of the day will appear in the display.

If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a Self-Cleaning cycle, press CLEAR/OFF. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. Restart the Self-Clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected.

Oven locks after self cleaning After self cleaning the panel indicates locked

I believe they can stay "Locked" for up to 3/4 Hours. See they heat up to like 900 Degrees, to "Clean" the oven... It stays locked until the oven "Thinks" it is "Safe" to be opened.

GE Elec oven JT952-30" blinks the "lock" after self-clean

Try unplugging power cord or trip circuit breaker, to cut the power to the appliance, then wait one or towo hours for the oven to cool down completely.

If the door stays locked, then there is a fault, probably a faulty temp probe that had blown because of high temperatures generated on self cleaning, or a defective control assembly. In that case you will need to call a technician to take apart the oven and fix the fault.

Enter model number here to find assembly diagrams and parts.
