I would recommend you do a clean install on Windows 7 ie. format the hard disk etc. You can purchase a Windows 7 upgrade CD (which is cheaper to change to Windows 7) but you need the Vista CD to be able to install Windows 7.
If Microsoft has done their job properly you should not have any trouble.
I install the Windows 7 Release Canadidate version, this is the last Beta version before the final release on Oct 09 and I have found no problems with this install apart from some device drivers, but this should be resolved by then, either by Microsoft or the manufacturers of the devices.
Based on this I don't think you need to worry.
