Typically it is indicating there are too much suds in the machine for it to operate effectively. i.e. too much detergent, wrong type of detergent, or a load of soap filled towels etc. Rinse the unit out via a "quick wash" cycle without any garments in the machine and try again...using "HE" detergent, or less of the detergent. DO NOT use non-HE no matter what sales people or friends have said. It is the great destroyer of tub bearings, clothing and just all around BAD. Good luck :)
The newer front loads have a suds sensor which detects the presence of excessive soap suds. This can be solved by switching detergents to a phosphate free detergent. If this is what you are already using, then there could be a problem with the sensor.
