No Digital Signal to TV

Hello! I bought a Sony Bravia 40 inch 1080i and originally installed it with the coaxial cable to the digital dvr cable box and it worked fine (horrible picture though). I then bought the HDMI cable, connected it to the back of the TV and to the cable box and I get a 'no digital channel found' meesage. Any ideas?

Tv says no signal after plugging coax from comcast box into tv. Tv is brand new tonight and plays the 23 digital channels fine when hooked directly to the wall, bypassing the cable box.

Make sure you have Tv on that particular HDMI input .I believe video 6 or 7 .if you do check menu make sure that input is not blocked. or you might want to try the component outputs of cable box and connect that to a component input on tv to see if that is working,,i have seen these tv HDMI input board bad..lets hoe this is not the case..

Set top box

Hello,
If you are using only an antenna (digital tv) with no other company involved (cable dish, etc) you do not need any additional boxes to get the digital signal as the tv has a DTV input. All you need is connect the antenna, switch the tv to that input number, then use the remote to go into the settings area, change the antenna type to digital, then run a scan to find all available digital signals in your area. You should be all ok now!
Good Luck!

I have a Bose lifestyle 50 (from 1999) and just purchased a new Sony Bravia TV. How can I connect the TV to the Bose sound system?

hello!
unless your "Bose" has an optical or coaxial digital stream audio inputs, there is no way of connecting TVs audio output to your receiver(home theater). to by pass the TV itself, connect analog audio output off your cable or set top boxes. those, still have analog audio out. If you need to connect more audio sources, use TV as a video monitor, connect all the audio outs to your "Bose", instead. In case of terrestrial broadcast, you may need to obtain digital converter box and use it simultaneously with TV to get your audio out. Also, if you lack DVR, that box will allow you to use regular DVD recorder. It's not going to be HD quality, but better, than nothing. You can't feed HD video signal out of TV set.Only analog.
good luck,
Alex.

Hi, I have a sony bravia tv ( klv20G300A) which was bought in Hong Kong about3 years ago . I haven't been able to get it to work with the uk digital signal. I am wondering about it's compatibility-...

This tv has analog tuner and you need digital tuner in tv to get digital signal in UK, alternate way is to hook cable box with this tv that will convert digital signal into AV output that will connect to AV input of tv to get cable channels.

Can the sony bravia home theater system be surround for both dvd and tv?

Strickly speaking about the audio:

The unit has digital audio in on 1 each coaxial and digital connectors.

Most DVD players have digital audio out in either a coaxial (RCA-looking) cable or optical cable.

Consider this: your TV is not a Source of audio (or even video, if you think about it). You probably get your programming from a cable or satellite box, Its audio should be available digitally.

If your DVD and cable use DIFFERENT types of digital audio sources, you're in luck. Attach each one to its compatible input on the Bravia. If you only have two optical outputs you can only attach one at a time.

If you have only two COAXIAL digital audio sources you CAN combine them into a single digital input on the Bravia by getting an RCA-splitter cable to connect them both to the one connector. It will only work if you leave one source dormant or off at any time you're monitoring the other source, otherwise you'll have two digital 'converstions' going on with the Bravia at the same time and it won't be pretty.

I have a brand new LG 50 plasma and a Bravia Sony surround sound system as well as a Cox Cable HD DVR box. I currently have it connected as such: HDMI from Bravia Sony System direct into TV HDMI from Cable...

you may have to set the input value on the bravia for optical on the input from the cable box. sometimes there is more than one way for a particular input to receive an audio signal, you may have rca(red and white), a black or orange rca type for digital, and then the optical. i would suspect you have to tell the bravia how the sound is inputed into the bravia. also , just a thought.... on the cable box there should be a volume control on the front of the box........ make sure the cable box volume is ALL the way up (it is the preamp volume).

I have a sony 40 inches bravia flat screen hd and

Could be the decoder:

1. unplug the TV ans wait a few mins.
2. If you have digital cable box or dish tuner reboot those as well (likely your issue)

What you have is artifacting what that means is tiling garbiling and freezing this happends when the data in the digital stream just stopped hence Frozen.

Try those things rule out your cable tv box first or your sat box, if this is OTA over the air your antenna.

1. Try DVD's if it happends during a DVD you do have a decoder issue if it does not you need to talk to your cable tv or sat operator.

So you got 3 possiabilites here 1. the worse Decoder, 2 cable company or satalite provider, 3 your antenna is in the wroung position.

I sure this will help.

Wiring problems

Not certain if HDMI can be used in a setup like this. I'd try it from the home theater (HT) to the TV, and other wiring for the other components.

For video:
All of these should have component connections (Y/Pr/Pb). You'll only need the video cables for each device:
  • Video out from cable, HT, and combo player.
  • Video in to TV. Your choice of inputs.
For audio:
Hopefully, the two output devices (the combo player and the cable box) have digital audio (fiber optic, or RCA coaxial). Otherwise, you'll only get stereo sound. VHS is stereo only anyway.
  • Audio out from cable box and combo player.
  • Audio in to HT.
The TV won't have anything to do with audio in this setup. Alternatively, you could try hooking up all inputs to the TV, and connecting audio out from the TV to the HT. Works best if this connection is digital, for surround.

Picture turns off sound is on

Hi Anya, Im sorry to hear of your difficulties but very happy to know im not alone. I have the same exact Sony model and the same exact problem. I wasnt sure if it was my Tv or my upconvert Sansung DVD player. I spoke with Sony assistance..and well..they were of no assistance. They blamed it on my HDMI cable, then the dvd's i was playing, then the dvd player itself. I ruled out all of the above. Mine goes black when i play a dvd in the upconvert format (720p or 1080i) otherwise known as digital..but the analog signal goes through fine. Luckily i am within my 30 days since I bought it, so now that I have seen your posting and am certain its a tv issue, I think i will return it and buy a Samsun tv (a great alternative for same price with only drawback being a glossy screen=not good for bright rooms but amazing color clarity). Sorry I dont have answer for the problem other than your not alone on this one. I have read other Sony users listing similar issues. I hope all goes well with you and wish you the best Matthew
