I have a kobalt 236005 air compressor. It will fill the tank to 150psi properly. When it is time for it to refill the tank it will either trip the breaker or overheat the motor. It will not fill the tank...

Apparently you have a start capacitor, which acts as a surge tank to allow motor to start up under a load. Its usually a black cylinder shaped object with two [2] prongs with a wire plugged onto each one [1]. It can be tested with proper equipment, but should be reasonable to buy.

I have the same problem as the one that cannot start after filling the air tank. I changed the start capacitor and the problem is still the same. Anybody knows why ? Thanks

Hi guyh815...

Check and replace your pressure shut off switch, normally they will cause this problem, if that does not solve your problem then check the motor.

Second time compressor tries to fill tank blows braker

The compressor pobably has a faulty unloader valve which bleeds the pressure off that is left in the cylinder when the compressor turns off . The unloader valve allows the compressor to start the next on cycle with the cylinder empty. Trying to start the compressor with the cylinder under pressure causes too much current draw and trip the circuit breaker.

My 94 park ave. moans when the a/c compressor activates. a/c other wise works fine.

Doesit moan all the time it's on or just as it starts. If it continues to moan then an orfice tube may be partly clogged. If just as it starts and goes away it's just the freon getting moving in an old car. the compressor has lots of miles and the seals are leaking interanlly in the compressor you say it's still cooling but if this is the case it won't for long. Sometimes the air motors in the dash move to the AC mode and they make noise as they move but should stop makings noise soon after startup

The piston in the motor has a larger "problem" bucking up against the 100 PSI of backpressure already in the tank. Thus, the larger amperage required to start the compressor motor when air is in the tank. Does the compressor motor have a starter capacitor? Perhaps the capacitor has failed...
