John Deere S1400 won't start

I just purchase my first home and my father gave me his john deere s1400 trimmer and told me if I could get it to run I could have it. I prime it and pull the string and it just sputters and nothing else. I also notice there is a lot of air in the fuel lines when I prime. What can I do to diagnose the problem?

I have the same problem. I replaced the primer bulb, and the fuel lines. Still no gas to the bulb; (It ran fine before I replaced the primer bulb)

we replaced a simple bulb, which had mixture in it before, now that the new bulb is on there, pumping is not getting the mixture in the bulb, cleaned carb, blew out lines everything is fine, bubbles come out in the tank when primer is pumped, no air leake, please tell me what the heck is going on! I am flustered!

John Deere weed eater model s1400 no spark

I am guessing the ignition is a self-contained module so unless the kill switch or wire is damaged and grounding or the flywheel magnet has lost magnetism the ignition module will have to be replaced - unless the spark plug connector is a suppressor type and then it is possible the internal resistor is open circuit.

Gap on spark plug for John Deere weed eater model S1400

Ideal gap can vary depending on the brand of spark plug.

Best solution is to choose your spark plug brand and then check in the online application catalogue for that brand - the recommended gap is usually listed alongside the type listed for your machine.

Trimmer runs good but does not cut grass

I have had a similar problem with an edging attachment. The socket that fit onto the shaft was worn, and the shaft would just spin, creating a lot of heat right there, but very little movement, and it would completely stall when you tried to use it implement, even though the moter still ran just fine. The cure, I'm sorry to say, was to replace the implement.
