Hi,

The knocking could be the damper if it last for about 5 seconds when the compressor turns on or off, or it can also be the refrigerant gassing off in the evaporator this sound can be really intermittent, but is normal with the refrigerants used today. there is a page in the owners manual devoted to noises your refrigerator can make.

thank you,

Whirlpool is favorite for that. It in my opinion is due to expansion in the frame. (difference between the inner and outer temp.) Find it mostly with 300 litre and less capacities.Sometimes it shows itself by creating an ice streak starting under the plate in the fridge compartment.

the motor could be on the way out. Put your hand (carefully) on the motor (back of the refridgerator), if it is too hot to touch then the motor is burning out and will need to be replaced.

If it seems to be coming from underneath the unit it could be the compressor. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} That's usually mounts inside the compressor. Usually when the compressor cuts off. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
Any other noise would be from a fan. One in the freezer behind the back panel and one under the unit where the compressor is.

SOURCE: Knocking noise in refrigerator section

This will be a loose mount on the electric motor (tighten)

Noise after the motor starts

Is this a clicking or a knock/pop sound? The knock knock sound can sometimes be helped a little bit by tilting the refrigerant filter drier (located in the compressor compartment) to a horizontal position. Ask your technician to do this for you.

Humming noise from refrigerator 9top).

This is likely due to a bad freezer fan motor. The main back panel in the freezer can usually be removed to check it out.

Amana refridgerator mdl abl2222fes knock noise

sounds like the compressor vibration dampers are wearing out. the dampers are the rubber washers that seperate the compressor from the chassis of the fridge. when they start to deteriorate, and the compressor kicks on, it will bounce against something in the chassis, causing a knocking noise.
