When in insert my SD Compactflash cards 128MB,

When I insert my SD Compactflash cards 128MB, 256Mb 4GB or 8 GB cards in my canon powershot a40 camera, the following msg appears: CF card full even though they are not half full. This is a new problem for me. If I insert original canon FC 8M card provided with camera, it will accept new photos when I shoot.

Up until today, a never had any problems using SD CompactFlash cards 128MB, 256MB 4GB or 8GB with my canaon powershot a40 camera. That is what I meant when I stated it's a new problem for me. What intrigues me is that I can use my original 8M card but no longer my other Sandisk cards.

First try formatting the cards in the camera to see if that corrects the problem (note that this will also erase the cards). If that doesn't work, remove the cards and look inside the card slot for a bent pin. If you do see one, don't fret as you can likely unbend it with the procedure shown in this link.

Same problem but with a different camera. Turns out, these cameras are very... may I emphasize very... picky as to which cards to use. Try other off-brands and you'll be surprised as to what it takes.

Can't get full use out of 8GB SD card.

There is no problem. The camera can only create video clips up to 4GB in size. You can record two long clips, but no single clip can exceed 4GB.

I have a canon ixus 700. i've tried to insert a new SanDisk 4 GB memory card. the menu says the card is locked when (i've treble-checked) it definitely is not locked. i read from others that...

According to the specs on Canon's web site, the IXUS 700 works with SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards are limited to 2GB in size (there are rare 4GB SD cards, but they tend not to work in SD devices).

Of course, it's your call as to how definitive any manufacturer's web site touting their product might be.

4 gb memory card placed into camera. Camera says card error. Why?

The SD630 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in SD devices.

You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Sd card

Sorry, but your camera was designed before the 4GB SDHC card came out. Although they look exactly the same as a standard SD card, they are not. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less).

Have a canon powershot A530..what GB size card do I need? Does it use alkaline or lithium batteries?

Hi,

It uses SD/MMC card and at least 256MB recommended, 512MB would be better. (No maximum limit is mentioned)
It uses Alkaline batteries and can click 360 shot.

Have you tried connecting the camera (with the memory card still inside it) to your PC? You should have a data cable that came with the camera, so instead of removing the card use your camera to download to the PC.

Camera will not accept any memory card over 2GB. Keeps saying "Memory Card Error"

Most new 4GB and larger cards are SDHC cards (look on the card). Although they look exactly the same as a standard SD card, they are not. Unfortunately, there is no way that these cards will work with your camera, as it was designed before the SDHC format came out. As you've dsicovered, 2GB and less are standard SD cards, and will work with your camera.

There were a few standard 4GB cards produced a few years ago, most notably by ADATA (I have one that I use in my A620). Unfortunately, these are rare now, and are somewhat expensive if found on eBay.
