My Nikon P90's memory card is write protected...How do I change this to delete images?

SD/SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How to delete protected images

If you want to delete everything on the card, the easiest way is to format the card. This will wipe out all images (and any other data as well) on the card, whether protected or not. The Format command is in the Setup menu. Details on page 32 of the manual.
To delete individual protected pictures, unprotect them first. From the Playback menu select Protect/Unprotect (the key icon). Details on page 84.

How do I disconnect The protection from deletion key

While reviewing the protected picture, press cursor-down to bring up the Playback Mode Palette. Use cursor-left/right to select Protect (the key icon) and press the OK button. Press cursor-up to select "Single Image/Sound" and press OK. Use cursor-up/down to select "Unprotect". Press OK.

Full details are in the "Protecting images and Sound Files from Deletion (Protect)" section of the manual (page 170 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

How can I reset the protect disc

Hi,

The PROTECT function is used to prevent any valuable images that you have recorded from being erased accidently. These images will appear on the images with the protect indicator (key symbol).
To release the PROTECT from the images, set the PLAY/STILL/MOVIE selector to PLAY, then display the images to be released.
Select FILE , PROTECT and then set it to OFF. You can do the same in Index mode to delete multiple selected images. To release protect from all the images, select index screen and select ALL, the select to OFF.
You can view the instructions on page # 74 of the manual.
Thanks for contacting FixYa.

I accidentally protected a picture on my camera nikon d60, how to unprotect it and delete it

There are 2 ways to do it. Firstly you can format the card - this will delete all images, including protected ones. Second method is to display the image in full frame view mode (or highlight it in thumbnail view) and then press the AE-L /AF-L button. This will remove the protection - or protect an unprotected image.
Hope that helps

I downloaded some pictures to my school computer and now my camera won't take any pictures. Message is Memory card write protected.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

I have managed to put a lock on my memory card in my camera... (it is on protection mode and dont know how to get it off as i want to delete all the pictures on the card. I have the old pentex optio wpi...

If your pictures are on the SD card in your camera, many of the sd cards have a small micro switch on one edge that will lock your card... you may want to pull it out of the camera and make sure that the physical lock isn't set..

Cannot delete photos" Card Protected" appears on screen

There should be a small switch on the memory card that allows users to lock it so no one can delete pictures on it. Take the memory card out of the camera and look for this switch on the card and make sure it is not in the locked position.

Deletion of multiple images

"Erase all" is an option on the menu (play menu). Using this will delete all images on the card unless they are protected. This is on page 82 in the Advanced User Guide.

You can also erase all images, including protected images, by using the Format option. This is on page 30 of the Advanced User Guide.

Deleting Photos From The Memory Stick

Deleting Still images From The Memory Stick This procedure is nearly identical with all of our digital camcorders. The only difference you may find is that there may not be an enter button on your model. If this is the case, the menu dial serves as your enter button when you push it in. * If you want to delete protected images, you must first deactivate the image protection. * An image which has been deleted cannot be recovered. 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER. 3. Using the (FWD) and (REV) buttons, search for the still image that you want to delete. 4. Press the MENU button. 5. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button. The MEMORY SET submenu will appear. 6. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight DELETE and press the ENTER button. Using the MENU DIAL, select either THIS FILE or ALL FILES and press the ENTER button. *THIS FILE : deletes only the file currently selected. *ALL FILES : deletes all files stored in the Memory Card. 7. A box will appear to verify whether you wish to delete the image(s). Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. *EXECUTE : deletes the selected image(s). *CANCEL : does not delete the selected image(s) and returns to the previous menu.
