Try installing the Audio Driver from this link. For the Function key issue try installing the Sony Notebook Utilities (Notebook Control and Utilities - 2 file(s)).

Check the Operating System and the install the appropriate driver as mentioned above.

If the issue persists then install the Sony Shared Library Utility (System Components - 2 file(s)) and then the Audio Driver and Sony Notebook Utilities (Notebook Control and Utilities - 2 file(s)).

Go to device manager check in the drop drown box next to your audio controller see if any yellow question or quototation marks appear.if so you need to replace our driver.

Sony Vaio VGN A-690 no battery detected

Yeah. If when you take out the A/C adapter, the laptop goes off immediately, even though you have bought a new battery, then it's definitely some hardware issue with the laptop itself. I'd say just live with it as it wouldn't be worth getting fixed (cheaper to get a new laptop).

If it can run on battery fine, it's just that windows indicates that the battery is not detected, then it could be a software issue. But given it's the same in Windows 7 as with XP, this could be BIOS related. Perhaps try flashing the BIOS?

How do you access the memory slot under the keyboard for a Vaio vgn-a690

You can refer to the Computer model User Guide page number 175 to 183 for the detailed instructions (with images) to access the Memory Slots and Memory Modules in the Computer.

You can view and download the User Guide from the below link.

Please follow the exact instructions in the User Guide. Removing the internal parts in the Computer may result series Hardware damages.

I need the bluetooth driver for a VGN-A690 notebook running Windows XP SP3. There is no recovery partition and my original Recovery Disc cannot be read for some reason. Sony has been absolutley worthless....

Sound not working - Shows in device manager as ok. Properties are unavailable. I tried to reinstall driver. It was working at one time. I had to replace hard drive. Is there a connection under the keyboard...
