How do I type an underscore character on the iPod?

Passwords cannot contain spaces. Use the underscore character instead of spaces.

The iPod Touch 3rd generation does not support iOS 7. You cannot upgrade to iOS 7 from your 3rd Generation iPod Touch

The third generation of iPods includes iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch and iPod Nano. Installing the latest software for each of these models involves the same process and requires the latest version of iTunes to perform. The 3rd generation iPod Touch uses the same iOS 4 operating system that the iPhone uses. You can download the latest version of iTunes from the Apple website for free. With iTunes, you can install the most up-to-date software on any 3rd generation iPod for free as well.

Download iTunes from the Apple website or check for the latest update by clicking "Help" at the top of the screen. Scroll down to "Check for Updates." Open iTunes either by clicking its icon in the Start menu or by connecting your iPod to your computer with the sync cable. This cable looks like an ordinary USB cable with a special attachment on the end that plug into your iPod. If you have lost your original cable, you will need to purchase a replacement. Any type of iPod sync cable will work, as long as it is compatible with your 3rd generation model. Wait for iTunes to update or restore your iPod automatically. Enter your iPod's name in the top field when you are prompted. Check the box next to "Automatically update songs on my iPod" if you want iTunes to sync your hard drive's playlist with your iPod every time you plug in your iPod. Select your iPod from the "Source" list on the left side of the screen if you need to update your software. This will take you to a screen with links to iPod software updates. Click on "Check for Update" to look for the most up-to-date iPod software, and click "Download" and "Install" to install the software. Do not unplug your iPod during installation. Check the box next to "Automatically copy photos to my iPod" to sync a photo folder on your hard drive with an iPod with a color screen. Choose the folder you wish to sync with your iPod from the "Synchronize photos from" menu. Click "Next" to move to the final screen. Click "Register My iPod" to send your personal information to Apple and then click "Finish" to end the installation. Your iPod will appear in the "Source" list on the left side of the screen. The 32 GB and 64 GB configurations of the iPod touch 3rd Generation are only supported by the last version of iOS 5. They are not supported running iOS 6 or subsequent versions of the operating system.
The 8 GB configuration is not even supported by iOS 5.

You will likely have to put the iPod into Duffy mode and connect it to your PC, then in iTunes click restore. Google how to put iPod touch 3rd gen into drugs mode for instructions on that.

Look at the Box and the Manual! 3rd Generation is not supported by iH9! Clearly marked on the Manual.

The first question I'm not sure. Is that the wireless network system that works with the wall outlets for power and networking?

The answer to the second question is No. You can only transfer playlists from ITunes into the IPod. Make sure your playlists are created in ITues before transferring.
