If you do not take the racks out they will discolor and not slide in and out as well as before. Do not use the stove for any other purpose during the cleaning process. Oven temperatures reach over 900 degrees during cleaning. Open a window to vent out the fumes from cleaning.

Your problem is with the oven ignitor.
Remove the racks from the oven, remove bottom shelf. Remove the metal plate covering flame spreader. The igniter should now be visible. Turn oven on and watch the glow from the igniter. It will come on but it wouldnt get too bright, so it wouldnt open the gas valve. After changing the ignitor, oven should light.
Is this my wife asking this ? lol, i had the same arguement with her, dont leave the racks in, it will tarnish them possibly bend them, that stove gets up to 900 F
you will neeed a new ignitior
its a pretty easy repair
