I have a centralized computer for senior citizens at their center and want to manage the users. How many users/profiles are allowed with Vista Home? IE: how many different users can login to the system. Is there a front end GUI that could manage this 'outside' of what vista does? All we need to do is have a separate login for each user and have personal files saved to their own folder. ALL DESKTOPS and APPLICATIONS will stay the same.. everyone is the sam.. just personal data is saved differently. We would even offer to pay someone to develop this if needed.

There is no need for developement Vista will support many users. You will want to get a list ready of users then you have some work to do in order to administer them.

Login as Administrator
Go to Control Panel
Click on User Accounts and start adding users. Becareful here make sure that you make all the user accounts private so that nobody else can access each others information. You will also want to make sure that all user accouonts are at the User level not Administrator. You can assigne each user the same generic password as the Administrator giving the option to the user to create their own on first login.

The method of doing so will be as follows:
Once you have completed creating all the users accounts you will want to go back to Control Panel then select Administrative tools
Then Double Click on Computer Management on the left you will see a catagory called Users and Groups expand the list and select users. Now you will need to go through each of the users that where created and double click on them one at a time on the General tab you will take the check mark out of Account never expires then you will add a check mark to User must change password at next logon. This way your users can select a password that they will remember.

Ther is some work in administering this however as people will forget their password and such. Good Luck!

I want to get rid of my Lowrey organ. Down sizing, senior citizen.

Most people in your situation donate it to a church or senior center then write it off their taxes as a charitable donation.

Dell computer less than 30 days old will not allow me to sign onto vista. error message says "User profile service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" What the heck do I do with...

Hmmm there could be a problem with the operating system itself. You can insert the disks the computer came with, and boot up to it. then when it comes to your install menu, select repair instead of new install.

Hope this helps

Windows vista

Windows Vista is the new operative system distributed from Microsoft, following the previous release of Windows XP.

An operative system is the interface between the user (you ) and the computer, that allows you to manage computer hardware resources and peripheral, and manage processes (software) running on your computer.

From the user point of view The operative syste is the environment where you run applications, manage connected devices, storing files and starting and stopping programs.

Vista is the latest OS released from Microsoft. It has a powerful interface, but it can be slow running on old computers. On vista you can also have some compatibility problem when you try to install old devices built for XP, such as printers, scanners etc.
