PDX 1.1000 amp overheating?

Hi, i have a PDX 1.1000 powering a type x alpine 1000w rms sub it was all installed proffessionally and the other day the sub stopped after about 30mins and the amp felt quite warm. Could that be the problem if so should it overheat so easily? 10 mins after i stopped my car i turned it on and sub worked again but i havent played it for that long since too worried, i turn it off whenever amp warms up. Anyone have similar problem?

This most likely a wiring issue, if it was professionally installed you shouldn't have issues unless the guy messed up. So describe how the amp is wired to the sub, it sounds like its running too low an impedance.

I have old Alpine MRP M500...and little bit new PDX 1000.1 makes sure you have shortest Ground (negative) wires hookup to negative sides... I can playing with my all day not even getting warm... Remember for 12-16 voltage system it's like dizzy ?? chain's.. you can hook ?? up the biggest positive RED all days it's will not work.. it's need the negative sides to complete the systems... hope this Helps new people who just get into car audio...

Hello thefatman69e,

The Alpine PDX-1.1000 is a physically small amp to produce the power that it does. The result is that it has less physical area for heat to dissipate. Running at or near it's maximum output into a 2 ohm load, it needs some serious airflow to keep it cooled down. I'd look for some way to get more air to it.

Hope this helps.

My alpine pdx 1.1000 amp cuts out, the sub cuts off and the amp goes in safe mode but it does it before it even gets loud, the sub is a 2000W rms sub, why dos the amp go in to safe mode, i cant turn the...

Power is rated at 1000x1 @ 4ohm.
How many voice-coils does your speaker have? If more then one, are the coils wired in series or parallel? How many ohms are the coils? If you actuate the cone with your hand, do you hear any "scraping" sounds?
Assuming everything above is within range and or tests good, the amplifier more then likely has at least one failed output transistor. a DMM would be needed to check for shorts.

Alpine pdx 1.000 keeps cutting out

You are going to want to make sure all your power wires and grounds are 4 gauge as well as the wire leads to and from the capacitor-4 gauge also. make sure you have a very good ground - the power wire from the battery should hit a distribution block-from the dist. block a 4 gauge should go to the capacitor another 4 gauge to the mono amp and another to the 4 channel amp -every component should have a good solid ground even if you have to bust out a grinder and a drill and some self tapping sheet metal screws and go nuts on it- see if that helps you

ALPINE PDX 1.1000

well you would have to look into the ohms of the amp compared to the ohms of the speaker. If the ohms are different you would have to hook them up in a different way. check the RMS on the speaker as well as the amp, this can also be sufficed by wiring it different if ohms match up properly! Hope this helps you out and if this is not the case let me know.

Amp cuts off

You may have a problem with the power source feeding the amp. You need to check the voltage across the amplifier's B+ and ground terminals when the amp is playing/cutting off. If it's dropping below ~11 volts, you need to determine why it's dropping so low.

Alpine pdx 1.1000 amp

These subs are dual voice coil I'm sure...make sure they are putting a 2 ohm load on the amp total, and also set your gain and frequency setting right. Set the frequency around 85 or 90, make sure the lo pass filter is on. Turn the gain ALL the way down and turn your stereo to the point right before your speakers distort....then slowly increase the gain until the subs are playing at full volume. This should not even be close to all the way up, and the subs should sound accurate and bold. Turning them past this point will cause distortion, in which case you should back off the gain a bit. Distortion causes power to cycle through the amp very rapidly and can cause blown subs and blown fuses. If you do not know how to wire both subs for a combined load of 2 ohms, please let me know what type of subs you have.

Alpine amp and subs questions

it will depend on how you use the 2 alpine subs,, do you know what there individual impedance is [ ohms ] and how you intend on wiring them,,,in series, in parallel, in any case you must maintain the min load in order to load the amplifier properly,,,otherwise the amplifier will operate improperly and allow DC [ direct current ] to pass and fry your subs...so what I really need is more in formation
