The 10 Ohms resistor R9304 in series with the the 44V display power supply was open.
How to find it:
Remove the to cover.
On
the right hand side of the front panel you will see on the side a wide
white flat cable going toward the back of the receiver.
Beside it is
a 4 black wire band connecting the front panel to a 3x4cm power PCB
which is parallel with the front panel inside the receiver (attached to
the front frame).
It has visible on the left side a diode bridge and
a fuse - above the fuse you can find the R9304, a SFR16 package
(1x3.5mm) marked BrownBlackBlack.
Check continuity.Replace if open wit a 1W resistor
Good job ONKYO, save 1/3 of a penny...
For the DIY:
As
an added step I replaced the R9304 with a 2W 47R resistor, replaced the
series transistor regulator Q9301 (tall TO92) with a bigger package
(isolated TO220) and one of the two series 22V zenners from the base -
D9310 - with a 10V one.
Output voltage drops from 44V to 34V, display is slightly dimmer but overall stress is down.
Good luck!
Replacing the resistors marked, 9304 & 9310, on the display board, fixed the problem.

My configuration:
ZONE 1 (living room)
DishNetwork Dual Tuner DVR Tuner 1 [S-Video out] -> [S-Video in] ONKYO TX-SR875 [HDMI out] -> [HDMI in] Sony KDS-60A3000 rear projection TV
ZONE 2 (living room)
DishNetwork Dual Tuner DVR Tuner 2 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] ONKYO TX-SR875 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] Samsung AQUOS LCD TV
Problem:
ONKYO receiver stops sending video signal to my ZONE 1 Sony TV through the HDMI connection. ZONE 2 may still receive video. (NOTE: the issue might be related to the upconverter circuitry?)
Symptom:
I couldn't see any video, but I could hear the Tuner 1 audio through my ONKYO. An important clue is that I couldn't see ONKYO's on-screen display menu on my TV when hitting the [Setup] button on my remote. But, I could see my TV's Sony-based menus and display options.
Solution:
1. Put all ZONES in Standby mode using the remote. Hit these buttons on remote: [Receiver], then [Standby]. [Receiver], [ZONE2], then [Standby], [Receiver], [ZONE3], then [Standby]. You should NOT see any lights on the ONKYO except maybe one red led near the power button.
2. Pull the power plug out of the back of the ONKYO, and leave unplugged for 20-30 seconds. Turning off any power center it is connected to isn't enough. You MUST unplug the power from the back of the ONKYO for 20-30 seconds.
3. Reconnect the power cord to the ONKYO.
4. Using the remote, set ZONE1 to a video source known to be working. If you don't see video, try leaving the power cord off for a longer period.
I know it sounds too simple to work, but that's what brought the video back for me the few times the video stopped displaying. Hope it works for you.
Grasu,
Thanks for the input. It turned out to be R9310 on the same board. Replaced it and Bang!!! It is up and running again! Thanks man!

display on receiver was working fine for six months then suddenly went. the blue circle light around the volume dial is still working. any ideas thanks tony
When I want to watch a DVD connected to the HDMI system, the display(video) comes on every 5 to 10 seconds and otherwise I get the snow screen and flickering.
I have tried changing the HDMI cables but they are fine. It appears the Receiver is the problem. Given the unit is in a cabinet and gets very hot could it mean the circuitry is cooked???
appreciate your help
My issue is the same as tony67... the display on the reciever itself stopped working. Any ideas would be appreciated.
no display on Onkyo 875 receiver
Onkyo TXDS797 Front Panel Display Blank or Gibberish. I've tried resetting the receiver (Video 1 Button on Receiver held while pressing Standby Button) but each time it comes back on for about 12 seconds and then goes blank again. Already had to send it back during Warranty for the surround channel "popping " error fix. Sometimes the display will come back but only displaying random lines looking like Martian characters. Most of the time it's blank now. It will allways display menu settings on the TV Screen when the TV is hooked up as monitor but not on the Receiver itself. I suspect either an overheated/faulty chip, or an oxidized connection, or a bad solder joint.
If it's a chip, does anyone have any suggestions as to which it might be (possibly Q7502, the M66005-0001FP on the Display Circuit PC Board, or Q7501, the 16-BT-96GNK, the FL Tube itself - hopefully not Q7201, the Submicroprocessor itself, the M30624MGA-359FP)?

Looks like this display business is not so rare with TX-SR875. Mine also went out for no reason. I would really appreciate if some of you guys with blank display succeed to solve the problem, to post here what have you done. And by the way - for those who's display is still off - the setup is still possible through on-screen display (connect the receiver to a screen with HDMI) - at least in my case everything works just perfect, except the display itself.
Onkyo TX-SR875
Dead display, looking for schematics/service manual to repair - e-bay purchase, no warranty.
All voltages wfs seem correct, filament voltage present, etc
Overall insanely hot, I installed HS over the Reon chip and added two low noise fans externally (powered via the switched AC plug)
i have the same problem my display just switched of,so im taking it back its still under garentee thank god
No display on the front of the unit. Â $1,400 for this POS. Â :-( Â Onkyo said to bring it in for service. Â They should recall it and pick it up.
