silicone spray works wonders !!!! and most silicone's are food safe too (look 4 it on label) so its safe to use around food prep area's, it however does not taste 2 good to the human palate so use sparely

Knob is probably split/damaged and the hi voltage from igniter is running through it , remove knob inspect it and clean or replace it.

their is no cleaning of contacts, they are sealed units..have to replace the switch,
you have to remove the entire range from the counter top..will take 2 people

Some times a breaker can be partially tripped and not visible . You should try turning the breaker off and on several times.

Water probably did get into the switch(es). The best bet for a fast fix is to pull the knobs off and use an air can (like for blowing dust out electronics) to blow down into the holes. This will dry out any water in there and should allow you to use it again. To be extra sure, blow out the switches and leave the knobs off over night. In the morning the knobs can be replaced and the cook top should be good to use. Hope this helps!

1) turn off power at the breaker. 2) remove hold down screws 3) pop up cooktop out of counter top 4) remove knobs and downdraft grille 5) remove ceramic top (screws around outside and also in side grille opening) 6) unplug burners replace with new burner

I know that some people have mentioned that it looks like it's on, even when it's off. Depending on how the light hits it, it can look like it's glowing a bit. This would be normal.

Replace the burner and receptacle and you should be short free. You may also need to replace the surface element switch too if it doesn't come on at all or stays on high regardless off knob setting.
