Nikon Coolpix 5700 Over-exposure of image whilst zooming in brigh

I purcahes the camera in 2003. About 2 years ago the CCD malfunctioned (louvre window images) and Nikon replaced the CCD card under the general recall directive.

More recently the camera cannot take pictures when zooming panoramas or macro in brightish light/ hazy conditions. Without zooming the image is OK. However if you zoom the image is totally overexposed. You generally see that the composed image has a shutter speed of 1/250, but as soon as you depress the button this shift to 1/500 and the image is overexposed. Is this the CCD card playing up again?

I now have the exact same issue. When not zoomed or fully zoomed the exposure is correct, however when partially zoomed the aperture does not engage and stays fully open. So basically I cannot really use the zoom or the picture is over exposed. Note - actually about 2/3 mechanical zoom and on works, so I can use a bit of the zoom.

LCD and viewfinder malfunction

There is a documented malfunction with this camera, and Nikon has issued a service advisory and form you can send in with the camera so they fix it. Click on the following link, send in the camera with the form, and Nikon should fix it for free (assuming the problem is the one documented by Nikon) . I had to do it about a year ago, and the same thing just happened with my brother's camera.

No image

Bad news is that it is CCD sensor that seems faulty ( and only way to repair this fault is to replace the CCD block ) but the good news is that Nikon repairs this problem free of charge on this model even if your warranty has expired. Contact Nikon and have a new CCD sensor installed.

Overexposure

CoolPix 5700's have a common image sensor failure. Check with Nikon for recalls, this may be the cause of your issue. Alternatively the shutter may be stuck open, causing too much light to reach the sensor and causing over exposure as well as lines across the image. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

LCD blank & No picture taken

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models. Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models.
