SOURCE: USB to Serial port cable for Bernina Artista 180

Just happen to be sitting in front a Bernina 180 at this very moment - with the connecting cable attached to a Keyspan USA-19HS Adapter. It is a current adapter available from either Keyspan (www.keyspan.com) or any number of computer retailers - physical or online. Seems to run around $30.00 just about everywhere. Auction sites may have bargain. Worked like a charm on an older XP computer as I was able to test the older software I had due to it having the necessary parallel port the the older dongle. While I am fairly certain this combination would also work on my Windows 7 computer, I am unable to test it as I have not come across a parallel adapter that will work with the older software parallel dongle. I've had other programs/peripherals that utilize usb to serial adapter (on my Windows 7) that have worked fine, so I suspect this would also be the case.

Hope this helps. If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Happy stitching,
Kim

SOURCE: I have a Bernina 180

Unfortunately no, I think that the 185 and beyond use the same emb module. The 180 if I remember correctly, has the memory and card reader in the module itself and may have a different plug. I do know for sure that the 180 hoops will definitely not fit on the newer modules. Sorry to disapoint, Allen

Don't think they offer that nor was it an option. They have a serial interface to download or upload designs to or from the machine's embroidery option. Check out a USB to Serial onverter and connect the PC to the machne. I used a Dynex brand cable and it worked. Use Bernina'a Artlink software (it;s free) and connect that way. Very easy to use.

With embroidery card inserted into module, no motifs appear on the display screen.

Here are two other possibilities other than electrical problems with your Bernina. There are embroidery design cards that were made for the 200 & 730 that simply do not work in a 180. There is nothing marked on the card or the packaging that will tell you what model machine the card will work in. I sold a bunch of my design cards on eBay last winter and I tested all of them in both a 730 and a 180 before making the ad discription. I found that most of the design cards worked in the 180 & 730, but there were a few that only worked in the 730. So if your design card is one of those that won't work in a 180, that could be your problem.
You did not say if you have other design cards that do work or there is only one you tried. Possibly the card itself is bad.
A static shock to the card could possibly damage it.
So if you take your machine to a dealer to have it looked at, take your design card along.
The 180's memory for storing designs is located in the embroidery module, not the machine itself. If that memory is filled up with other designs this can cause a problem.
So your problem is most likely with the design card or with the embroidery module. Should you need to get another embroidery module, that module needs to be the same version number as your machine or it will not work. I have a. video posted on YouTube that shows you how to check the version number of your machine and module. That information is in my "Bernina check hours 165, 170, 180, 185" video. Put that in the YouTube search box and you will find my video. Plus I have other helpful Bernina videos posted.

When you are editing the design make sure you are actually doing it in the hoop size that you want. It may be that the design has been done in a larger hoop although it does not really require it. I can change the hoop size on my machine. Good Luck!

I purchased a CD Rom embroidery which had the usual formats on its cover, including art. which is what I need. I could open the CD on my computer, but when I tried to send it to my Artista 180, it told me...

How did you try to transfer the ART design to your 180? It needs Artlink by Bernina to do so or the Bernina Designer program. There are different ART versions and as I know, only the Designer can convert it to the version that your model can handle. I also own some CDs and never had any problem transferring any to a Personal Design card or stitching them out with my Bernina 165.
