It sounds like the connector or wiring that links the LCD display board on the door to the main PCB inside the coffe maker has become loose or damaged.
This would cause the text displayed to become scrambled.
Its a 26 way connector that is labelled JP16 (on the next model up) and is next to a large IC.

Turn your machine off. Close the door. Depress <clear>, holding it down, press <on/off> then let go of both. Then press <clear> 3 times. On 3rd time, hold it until Service menu appears. Select <brew unit> then press left arrow to turn from <off> to <on>. Then press right arrow by <select> This will turn your brew unit drive to the correct position and you should be able to get your brew unit in/out and your waste container back in. Make sure to turn your machine off/on again to get out of Service Menu. I have a picture of how the wire needs to be inserted to get that back on. It's definitely not intuitive, but send another note with your email address and I can send the pics.

The brew unit has lose parts on left-hand-side, wiggle them up and down. Put the waste unit back, switch off the machine and then turn it on (pull the cord). It worked for me!!!

Hi summeja99145,
Welcome to fixya!
I have been unable to download the 610 service manual, but do have one for the 615. They should be close enough for you to fix your machine. The instructions for the brew group are on page 37 and photo on page 38. When reading through this you may be able to recall what the previous service person instructed you to do to get the gears to mesh again.
Here is the webpage: http://www.fperkins.com/images/articles/Miele-Coffee-CVA615-Service-Manual.pdf
Copy and past this address into your browser and give it time to download.
The manual for the 610 is at this webpage: http://www.free-service-manuals.com/Kitchen_Appliances/Miele_CVA610_Technical_Information_L90678/
I can't get it to download, maybe you can...
Good luck. Please reply back if you have further trouble.
I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,
Handie Andie
