I've done some searching this seems very proprietary, I would first try contacting the manufacturer directly to see if t hey can shed some light on this issue.
I had this problem also when trying to connect to my HF200. I found a solution. The DVD recorder does not like MXP recordings, in fact it hates them. You will have to make sure no MXP recordings are present on your SD card/Hard drive. Then any recordings you make with the intension of recording to DVD need to be made in FXP mode or below. But remember if you have a selection of recordings on your SD/HD and just one is in MXP mode, you will get the error 'Operation cancelled'.
Just as a sidenote, I phoned canon support about this problem, they were useless, promised me a callback that I never got!
I have similar problem. I have recorded all of my old tapes on a DVD-RW disc (lots of time spent on it) and as I wanted to finalize them - it would display an recording error. Recently I purchased a new Sony blue ray player and I realized it would play the not finalized discs. I am still looking for a solution how to record these memories on a PC so I can edit them.
with a DVD+/- RW disc the amout of time keeps dropping because with every recording process the disc loses a life you can burn those disc 200 times before they become useless so the disc might be beyond the life peroid or bad
my prob is with the DVD-/+R disc tho and i figured it out the disc was bad
for the grinding noise if its hi piched its normal thats the disc spinning up to read or write speed
if that not the case something is rubbing in there and that might explaine the writting errors
**DISCLAMER**
the disc manurfacture dose not take resposnablity for defective disc and any loss they have caused(if the data is lost)
try to roll back the driver , if that doesn't work go to the manufactures web site and download the driver . if it still doesn't record install the drive in another computer and if it doesn't work then it maybe a bad drive itself
I had that exact same problem. I would record a bunch of dvds with no problems for months and then some and one day it doesn't work. Only this showed up E4 EA03738B. However I've found the solution. Instead of going out and returning the recorder or buying new dvds just purchase a Laser Lense Cleaner. It's a dvd cleaner. Works like a charm.
I posted this in another person's question but it is probably relevant to you as well. This model (which I own myself) is outdated and needs a firmware upgrade. You might get lucky and get one from their tech support. However, I heard they stopped shipping them nearly a year ago.
As it stands your recorder can only use DVD-R that records at 4x (or lower) and DVD-RW that records at 1x. Any other media is useless. Since 4x media is outdated, it may be hard to find at a major retailer.
Let me know if you have any luck fixing this or finding working DVDs as I have had the same issue myself. I simply cannot find 4x DVDs in the store.
